Senior Web Developer
Senior Web Developer / Lead Developer
Bolton (moving to Manchester) | Full-time | 4-day working week
If you’re a strong Senior Web Developer looking for a role where you can still stay hands-on while having real influence over projects, process and technical direction, this is one worth exploring.
You’ll be joining an ambitious agency with an impressive client portfolio, strong momentum, and a genuine appetite to build things properly.
This isn’t a role where you’ll be buried in meetings or pulled away from development. You’ll still be writing code, solving complex problems and shaping how projects are delivered while also helping elevate the wider development function.
Perfect for someone who enjoys ownership, variety and modern web builds, and wants to play a bigger role without losing the technical side of the job.
The role
You’ll work across a broad mix of web and platform projects, helping lead technical delivery while remaining heavily involved in development.
You’ll be:
- Building and delivering modern web projects end-to-end
- Working across WordPress (custom themes), Next.js, React, PHP and modern JavaScript
- Developing RESTful APIs and headless CMS architectures
- Working with SQL, PostgreSQL and database-driven systems
- Managing hosting environments, deployments, DNS and server setups
- Improving CI/CD workflows, testing, QA and site performance
- Scoping technical work and helping shape project solutions
- Building internal tools, dashboards and automation
- Helping drive AI and automation initiatives across the agency
- Influencing development standards, processes and best practices
This role suits someone who enjoys both building and improving — not just maintaining.
What they’re looking for:
- Strong commercial web development experience across PHP, JavaScript frameworks and APIs
- Experience with WordPress, Next.js and modern frontend/backend development
- Comfortable working across hosting, infrastructure and deployments
- Experience delivering projects in fast-paced agency or client-facing environments
- Someone who can take ownership and solve problems independently
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teams
- A developer who wants to influence how things are done and help shape future direction
Why it’s worth a look
- 4-day working week
- Hybrid working: Monday to Thursday in the office, Wednesday from home
- Strong pipeline of exciting projects and clients
- High-trust environment with real ownership
- Opportunity to shape technical direction and AI adoption
- A genuinely hands-on technical role with influence and progression
- Chance to grow into a wider leadership role over time
