Apprentice Field Service Mechanical Technician
Mitsubishi are recruiting apprentices to work predominantly with the Field Service Gas Turbine Team but may also be expected to develop other skills as part of wider Field Service and business needs.
This person will be allocated as Technician in UK project and/or Supervisor/Technician in projects to support the local manpower.
Role
Mitsubishi will develop the successful Apprentice to be capable of the following skills and abilities:
- Complete CCNSG and/or IOSH Health and Safety training
- Comply with HSE procedures
- Comply and work within Permit to Work Systems
- Basic Mechanical Fitting Work
- Pipework assembly
- Use of Torque Wrenches, Hydraulic Tensioning and Hytorc
- Tightening sequences of casings
- Induction and naked Flame Heating for bolt removal
- Bolt Cleaning and management of refurbished parts
- Borescope work and Foreign Media Exclusion controls
- Lifting, Slinging & Crane Driver course
- Inspection of parts (with MPW Inspectors)
- Penetrant Test for Non-Destructive Testing
- Sequencing of Hot Parts (handling and care of Combustor Parts)
- Turbine Blade Ring Overhaul & Vane assembly
- Lifting, Slinging & Crane Driver course
- Blading of Turbine and Compressor sections of rotor
- High Speed Coupling assembly
- Disassembly, Overhaul and Assemble Combustion System
- Picking parts from Drawing Book/ Parts Catalogue
- Confirming clearances from Engineering Drawings
- Reading and following Piping & Instrumentation Drawings
- Use of Drawing Database and Document control system
- Momentum charts and Balance Theory for Blading
- Alignment of Plant and Equipment
- Balance of Plant overhaul (Valves, Fans, Motors, Pumps and Accumulators), understanding GT Systems function
- Fault finding
- Reporting, NCR process
- Contact check and adjust loading of white metal journal bearings
- Operation and Maintenance regime of Gas Turbine
Training
- The successful candidate will work towards completing the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprentice Standard
- Delivered by Blackpool and The Fylde College offering expert tuition and exceptional facilities

Off-the-job training:
- Developing your skills at work is called on-the-job training, 20% of your apprenticeship (equal to one full day a week) will be ‘off-the-job’. This might include attending College, tackling projects, online learning, coaching, shadowing, or training for your job
Stacks of support:
- Assessment mostly takes place in the workplace. When you start, you will be allocated a skills coach, who will visit you at least once a month to guide and support you and help you to plan for your future
- We will also provide you with specialist support for your English and maths and for any additional needs that you make us aware of
- MPW will develop the Apprentice to the point where they will be a qualified Technician to permanently join the Field Service department
