Senior Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid in South West London - 2 days a week

My client is a forward-thinking digital organisation undergoing a major data and analytics transformation. They are investing heavily in modernising their cloud data platform and are now looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to help build next-generation data warehouses and enable advanced analytics across several business areas, including sustainability, finance, regulatory operations and wider corporate functions.

The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, delivering and optimising cloud-native data solutions. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, architects, and analysts to deliver high-performing data products that support operational decision-making and future innovation.

This is an opportunity to influence data strategy, shape engineering best practice, introduce automation, and help the business adopt modern data tooling and generative-AI-enabled analytics.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, developing and supporting scalable, cloud-based data pipelines and warehouse solutions.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Building high-quality reporting and analytics capabilities with a focus on performance, scalability, and intuitive self-service.
  • Driving automation across CI/CD, testing, orchestration, and ETL/ELT workflows.
  • Experimenting with new ideas, tools and approaches to enhance the data engineering offering.
  • Owning and supporting critical data products, including incident response and platform health monitoring.
  • Collaborating early on major initiatives, influencing architectural direction and contributing to proofs of concept.
  • Championing best practices, engineering standards, and a modern approach to data delivery.

Skills & Experience Needed

  • Strong background in data engineering, especially within AWS environments.
  • Hands-on experience with services such as S3, Redshift, and other AWS data ecosystem tools.
  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools: Airflow, dbt, Airbyte (or similar).
  • Proficient in building automated pipelines, CI/CD, and applying software development best practices to data engineering.
  • Strong performance-tuning, optimisation and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Power BI or QuickSight.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
