We are supporting a major technology client in hiring two Server Tooling & Orchestration Specialists to support a critical onshoring programme for a UK Government department, bringing previously offshored automation and orchestration support back into the UK.
This is a hands-on operational role providing technical ownership of Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH) runbooks and their integrations with ServiceNow, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID and other enterprise platforms. The successful candidates will support, troubleshoot and optimise existing automation workflows within a highly governed, ITIL-aligned service model, ensuring automation services remain available, secure and compliant.
This role suits an experienced SCORCH engineer who is equally comfortable troubleshooting existing automations as building new ones, with strong PowerShell Scripting skills and a solid understanding of the wider enterprise tooling ecosystem SCORCH integrates with.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, support and maintain assigned infrastructure tooling environments, including Microsoft System Center Orchestrator
- Maintain the availability, health, performance and resilience of production and non-production SCORCH environments
- Support, troubleshoot and optimise SCORCH runbooks and PowerShell-based automation workflows used for request fulfilment and operational automation
- Diagnose and resolve failed automations, integration issues and workflow errors impacting business or operational services
- Manage integrations between SCORCH, ServiceNow, SCOM, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and other connected platforms
- Plan, schedule and control life cycle activities including patching, upgrades, capacity management, release activity and platform maintenance
- Produce and maintain operational documentation, runbook guidance, knowledge articles and support procedures
- Investigate incidents and problems relating to automation services, supporting root cause analysis and service improvement activity
- Ensure all changes are delivered in accordance with agreed standards, security controls, customer processes and defined change windows
Essential Skills
- Strong hands-on experience administering, supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft System Center Orchestrator, ideally SCORCH 2022 or later
- Experience integrating SCORCH with enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow, Active Directory and Azure AD/Entra ID, and comfortable operating within that wider environment
- Advanced PowerShell Scripting experience, including automation using Active Directory, Exchange Online and Azure AD/Entra ID
- Experience designing, maintaining, testing and deploying Orchestrator runbooks in enterprise environments
- Experience integrating SCORCH with ServiceNow, including ITSM workflows, automated ticket creation, request fulfilment, REST API and OAuth-based integrations
- Knowledge of Microsoft SCOM integration, alert processing, event management workflows and monitoring-tool integration
- Microsoft SQL Server administration fundamentals relevant to Orchestrator databases and platform support
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex automation, runbook, database and integration issues
- Experience supporting life cycle activities such as patching, upgrades, resilience testing, capacity management and platform transitions
- Experience working within an ITIL-based environment (Incident, Change, Problem, Release Management), with the ability to manage support queues and workload to meet SLA targets
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Kelverion Integration Packs, including ServiceNow REST, SQL Server, data manipulation, text manipulation and runbook management
- Experience supporting highly available SCORCH architectures, SQL Always-On Availability Groups, Hyper-V Replica or equivalent resilience technologies
- Experience with VMware PowerCLI, virtualisation platforms, hybrid Data Centre environments or wider infrastructure automation tooling
- Experience building new runbooks from scratch, in addition to supporting and troubleshooting existing automation
- Experience working within secure, regulated or highly governed customer environments
