Associate Director of IT
Job summary
The Associate Director of IT will support the strategic importance of IT in healthcare, research, and education. The role has three main focuses: delivery of robust, resilient and performant systems and technology; strategic transformation of on-premises technology to utilise Cloud and third-party services where appropriate; and an understanding of the business to be able to utilise technology to drive productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
Main duties of the job
This role focuses on systems, infrastructure, and operations to deliver systems and data to a broad user base on trust premises and remotely. It is responsible for all aspects of support and development of systems and infrastructure. The post holder requires a sound technical knowledge and excellent leadership qualities. The post-holder will produce operational and strategic reports on behalf of the CIO for Executive Boards regarding operational performance and strategic technology proposals. The post holder is the deputy to the Chief Information Officer, and as required, will undertake other tasks as required by the CIO to ensure the smooth delivery of the service.

Job responsibilities
Ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of all IT Services to the trust and its partners. IT Services include the support and development of all infrastructure, operations, applications, and third-party technology services within a strategic framework.
Support and develop a strategy for the delivery of continuous improvement to trust IT services, enabling the trust to achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
Produce, where appropriate on behalf of the Chief Information Officer, reports, proposals, and strategic papers for consideration by trust boards, committees, and stakeholder forums. These may include performance reports, service reviews, strategic proposals for change and improvement, finance and resource reports regarding the services they are responsible for.
Manage a technical workforce and third-party suppliers to enable the smooth delivery of all accountable services.
Manage financial and other resources to enable the delivery of services within agreed parameters.
Ensure IT services are maintained to the highest levels in line with the business SLAs and where required to further develop suitable business measures for performance.
Provision of business analysis and applications development services, including design, development, configuration, implementation, upgrades, and patching of applications where these are run on premise, and the sourcing of suitable third-party services for managed applications services where more appropriate.
To work closely with strategic programme teams where development of large-scale critical systems necessitates a dedicated approach.
To manage the lifecycle of the trust applications portfolio, ensuring systems remain on supported platforms with vendor support contracts in place as appropriate, are suitably documented, can be fully recovered within agreed service levels, and are decommissioned safely at end of life.
Actively participate in the Chief Information Officers Leadership Team and be accountable for all activities under their responsibility, working closely with colleagues on the Leadership Team to deliver joined-up information and technology services.
Ensure the successful delivery of IT applications, infrastructure and operations projects, along with their transition through to Business As Usual.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Post graduate qualification or relevant masters or extensive relevant experience
- ITIL Foundation
- ITIL Expert
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience leading an equivalent sized IT or digital service function
- Demonstrable track record of delivering a programme of substantial and sustained improvement in business operations linked to IT
