EPR Data and Reporting Developer
Job summary
This is a specialist post which will review the internal and external reporting and analytical requirements of the trust to identify the impact of the implementation of a new Electronic Patient Record system. It will require the completion of detailed data audits to establish and document the current data requirements across the organisation from initial point of capture through to reporting or utilization for analytical purposes. This 'as is' position will then be used to ensure that the required data will be available following the EPR system implementation.
The post holder will have a comprehensive knowledge of data requirements in an NHS environment together with an understanding of the technical complexity of extracting, manipulating and reporting healthcare information. They will be confident in identifying data flow problems, addressing issues, and raising these with clinical, non-clinical and third-party supplier/developers to improve system quality and usability.There will be integration and a close working relationship with the data migration and data-flow teams that are also supporting this project.
Main duties of the job
- Undertake a thorough audit and assessment of the trusts current data requirements for both external submissions and internal utilisation. Understand and document the end-to-end lifecycle and characteristics of the data work from origin to delivery to local and national consumers.
- Collaborate with operational and clinical stakeholders to establish the 'as is' position for data acquisition and dataflow which supports the provision of reports and enables data analysis. proactively engage with stakeholders to explore their needs, search for complementary data sources, explore the limits of the available data and promote business decision-making based on the data.
- Ensure all investigations are documented and outline the organisations data utilisation.
- Liaise with the Data Migration team of the project to ensure that the full organisational requirements are understood and acted upon.
- Undertake an analysis of the proposed 'to be' state as regards data availability and ensure data mapping is available. Understand and document the limitations of the data and how it can be enriched to deliver more relevant information.
- Design and implement reporting structures within the new EPRS, aligning them with organisational reporting needs.

Develop and execute data validation processes to verify the availability of migrated information. Specify how data should be cleansed and prepared and ensure processes and documentation reflect this to ensure valid and replicable results.
Conduct rigorous testing of data reporting functionalities to identify and resolve any issues during the implementation phase.
Develop and implement quality assurance protocols to maintain the accuracy and reliability of reporting outputs.
Provide training sessions for end-users on any data reporting features of the new EPRS
Offer ongoing support to address user queries and ensure proficiency in utilising reporting tools
Be a contributor to the development of the data quality elements of a Data Migration Strategy that will support the EPR implementation plan.
Develop appropriate and measurable project metrics which reflect data availability and reporting.
Support the establishment of any new data requirements across organisational operational, clinical and nursing disciplines.
Contribute as a key member of an EPR Data Quality Committee.
Promote the importance of data reporting and data availability within the specifics of the project environment.
Person Specification
Experience
- Proven experience in data reporting and system implementation projects, preferably in healthcare settings
- Experience of Data Migration projects
Knowledge
- Good understanding of NHS data sets and IT systems
- Understand the NHS and how systems support patient and clinical safety
Education
- Degree level qualification in a related discipline (e.g. Information Technology, Data Science, Business Analysis)
