Senior Information Analyst
Job summary
This is an existing role in the Performance & Information Team covering for a period of Maternity Leave for the current postholder. The role is responsible for the management and provision of high-quality information to support one of the four clinical divisions within Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and to support the production of the trust statutory returns including SUS and SLAM.The Senior Information Analyst will be responsible for delivering robust analytical support to the allocated division and will also assist with wider reporting responsibilities of the team. Working under direction from the Deputy head of information, the post holder will deliver analysis on a range of areas; they will use their analysis and technical skills to identify key benefits, patterns, trends or inconsistencies in the division which could be improved. The post-holder will be expected to perform analysis and advise divisions independent of line management. They will be expected to perform high-level analytics using a range of technical skills and software, including SQL, SSRS, MS Excel, to build visualisations, dashboards, metrics and calculations to meet the division's needs. They will also be responsible for signposting and acting as a liaison between the wider divisional team, and the Performance & information team.The post holder would be required to have a good understanding of routine healthcare reporting frameworks and statutory returns ( e.g. RTT, DM01, CDS and SLAM).
Main duties of the job
o Responsible for the independent provision of complex analysis to operational staff, clinical staff, senior managers, and other Trust staff, providing detailed interpretation and recommendations relating to the analysis.o Provide advice and guidance on the communication and interpretation of complex information to support divisional improvement initiatives.o Support the production of the trust statutory returns including SUS and SLAM.o Advise on data and information issues across a range of areas, and support teams to implement secure and sustainable decisions requiring data use and collectiono Scrutinise data and information sources across the division to identify root cause of variances, trends, discrepancies or gaps.o Take responsibility for designated statutory returns, ensuring these are prepared, data quality assured, signed-off and submitted on time.o Develop a close understanding of the Division and adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving and anticipating and evaluating information needs. Build and manage working relations with the senior stakeholders and the Divisional Team, with Divisional Manager, Clinical Directors, and service managerso Analyse & present divisional performance, highlighting key issues for discussion at at the divisional board meetings. Ensure that management are aware of key issues and risks.

Create interactive analyses, dashboards and KPI monitoring to present and report performance and other highly complex information, adjusting presentational styles to meet the requirements of different audiences. Ensure that all business information made available to users, is of a consistent standard and has full regard for issues of patient confidentiality and business sensitivity. Responsible for development and iteration of data models as required to inform effective management decision making. Develop reports and dashboards collecting information from different sources, with the ability to critically assess quality of data. Structure problems and develop appropriate analytical solutions, analysing and triangulating data in innovative ways and adapting approaches to deal with ambiguity. Deploy analytical judgement in dealing with unstructured and/or missing data.Communication To use effective communication and questioning in order to understand the full scope of the information required. Communicate analytical/statistical information, advising of known issues and offering guidance on concepts used to aid understanding. To effectively communicate with line manager all pertinent issues arising to keep them informed of workload, the direction of travel and to receive feedback/support. Establish and maintain good communication with end users including interpreting requests for new work, validating outputs and seeking advice if the context or purpose is unclear. To produce and maintain appropriate documentation for all development activities, datasets and structures. To work in conjunction with the other teams, to keep abreast of dataset/reporting changes, sharing ideas and knowledge in order to inform best practice. Sharing knowledge and best practice with colleagues regarding data literacy, demand and capacity and other informatics functions which support the improvement programme. Communicate analytical/statistical findings for a wide range of audiences, including non-analytical professionals. To present the data on the internal forums, with the ability to adjust the content to a different audience.Other responsibilities To handle patient identifiable/sensitive data correctly and within the confines of the Trusts Information Governance Policies, and advise the project team members with regard to safe and effective data collection and processing. Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development planning process. The ability to use initiative and to manage own workload without managers supervision and using existing processes (e.g.P&I Hornbill system, MS Teams Planner) to accurately record tasks and project updates. To be proactive in gathering agreed information and manage expectations of different stakeholders across different projects, and colleagues within P&I Act as a visible champion for improvement and innovation. Building effective stakeholder networks both inside and outside the organisation. Deputise for the Head of information or Deputy head of information at meetings when required. Responsible for maintenance and safe-keeping of any equipment provided by the Trust for home-working use or on-site/office use, as well as for reporting any issues to line management or the IT department so they can be resolved as quickly as possible. The role is expected to be mostly computer-based and thus will involve long periods in a seated position using VDU; the post-holder is expected to ensure their own well-being by taking breaks as required and alerting line management to any issues with working conditions. Experience
- 3 years experience in a relevant NHS environment
- Experience of building technical solutions and reports to meet bespoke requirements
- Experience of interpreting national policy and operational procedures
- Acute Trust Experience
Skills & Ability
- Excellent computer literacy skills, including advanced Microsoft Office Professional Skills
- Proficient in SQL Server
- Knowledge of SUS, SLAM, and PbR
- Advance excel including power query
- Knowledge of SSRS
- Knowledge of other coding languages (e.g. Python, R, VBA)
- Knowledge of QlikSense
- Knowledge of NHS data dictionary
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in technical field (e.g. maths, computer science) or equivalent experience as an analyst
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Master's degree, similar qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
