FPGA Design Engineer
Are you an FPGA Engineer looking for the opportunity to take real ownership of your designs and see them through from initial requirements to hardware testing and product release?
We're recruiting on behalf of an established and technically driven engineering business developing advanced electronic systems for demanding real-world applications.
You'll join a small, highly skilled engineering team and work closely with electronics, software and systems engineers to design, develop and verify FPGA solutions for both new products and ongoing product improvements.
This is a hands-on FPGA design role where you'll be involved throughout the development lifecycle rather than focusing on one isolated part of a larger programme.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing FPGA solutions using VHDL
- Taking FPGA developments from requirements and initial design through to simulation, verification, hardware testing and release
- Developing and maintaining test benches and supporting verification activities
- Carrying out simulation, synthesis and timing analysis, including supporting timing closure
- Debugging FPGA and hardware issues during development and integration
- Supporting hardware/software integration and investigating issues across the wider electronic system
- Producing clear technical documentation, test specifications and design information
- Working with electronics, software and systems engineers to deliver project requirements
- Contributing to both new product development and enhancements to existing systems
- Participating in design reviews and helping to resolve complex technical challenges
About you
We're looking for an FPGA Engineer or FPGA Design Engineer with commercial experience of digital design and VHDL development.
You'll ideally have experience with several of the following:
- FPGA development using VHDL
- Digital design and FPGA architecture
- FPGA simulation, verification and debugging
- Synthesis and timing analysis / timing closure
- AMD/Xilinx and/or Intel (Altera) FPGAs
- Vivado and/or Quartus
- ModelSim, QuestaSim or similar
- Development of FPGA test benches
- Hardware integration and validation
- Digital communication interfaces such as UART, SPI or HDMI
- Python, C or scripting would be useful but is not essential
- Working within embedded electronics or complex product development environments
We're particularly interested in engineers who enjoy understanding a problem, developing the technical solution and then seeing that solution through to working hardware.
Your background could be in defence, aerospace, telecommunications, industrial electronics, instrumentation, communications or another high-reliability engineering environment.
Why apply?
This is an opportunity to join a small engineering team where you'll have genuine visibility and ownership of your work.
You'll be working on technically challenging electronic products, with the opportunity to contribute from the early design stages through to verification, integration and release.
Rather than being one small part of a large engineering department, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers across disciplines, contribute ideas and develop your technical expertise.
If you're looking for a role where your FPGA design skills will have a direct impact on the products being developed, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
