We're currently looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a high-performing international engineering environment and lead a team delivering an important, time-critical technology programme.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Engineering Manager who enjoys leading people, driving delivery and providing technical direction, while remaining close enough to the technology to influence architecture, reliability and engineering standards.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead, manage and develop engineering teams, typically overseeing 1-3 teams

  • Identify and remove delivery blockers and communicate risks clearly
  • Provide technical and architectural guidance across products and services
  • Take ownership of services in production, including application health, performance and reliability
  • Lead and support technical incident management, including root-cause analysis and postmortems
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, systems and ways of working
  • Support recruitment and headcount planning
  • Promote strong engineering practices around testing, security, continuous delivery and operational excellence
  • Potentially participate in an on-call rotation
What we're looking for
  • 5+ years' experience managing software engineering/development teams
  • Strong software engineering and technical background
  • Experience with software architecture and system design
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of production systems and service ownership
  • Experience with incident management, reliability and operational practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Comfortable managing priorities, roadmaps, deadlines and competing demands
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Pragmatic approach to technical and business decisions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
The ideal candidate

We're looking for someone who combines strong people leadership with genuine technical depth.

You'll be comfortable coaching engineers and managing performance, while also being able to challenge architectural decisions, understand production issues, manage technical risks and drive teams towards reliable delivery.

This is a contract opportunity, initially managing a team of contractors, so the ability to quickly build trust, create momentum and deliver against defined timelines will be particularly important.
