Cloud Operations Engineer
Contract | London (Hybrid) | £650 p/d - £750 p/d Inside IR35
The Opportunity
A leading global alternative asset manager is looking for an experienced Cloud Operations Engineer to join their London-based technology team on a contract basis. This is a hands-on infrastructure role sitting at the heart of a security-conscious, regulated environment — maintaining, hardening, and automating a mature Azure estate during a period of strategic growth.
You will own the day-to-day health and security of the Azure environment, work closely with the security function, and play a key role in vulnerability management, identity governance, and infrastructure automation. The organisation takes cloud security seriously — Wiz, GitHub Advanced Security, Entra ID, and JIT privilege access are all in active use.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day administration and monitoring of the Azure environment — subscriptions, resource groups, networking, and storage
- Patch management and vulnerability remediation across Azure-hosted workloads, including maintaining and executing the emergency patching runbook for critical CVEs
- Infrastructure automation using PowerShell and Terraform/Bicep
- Support Wiz and GitHub Advanced Security integration for cloud security posture management
- Maintain and improve the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environment, including session host management and image updates
- Work with the security team on conditional access policies, Entra ID configuration, and identity hygiene — including service account audits and JIT privilege
- Support DR runbook maintenance and testing
Key Skills Required
- Hands-on Azure administration experience across compute, networking, storage, and IAM
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell; Bicep or Terraform experience desirable
- Patch and vulnerability management in an Azure environment
- Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerting
- Solid understanding of network security concepts — segmentation, NSGs, private endpoints
- Entra ID and conditional access configuration experience
- Security-first mindset, comfortable working within structured change management processes
- Financial services or regulated environment experience a plus
