Head of Core Banking - Architecture

Morson Edge are supporting a large FS client in appointing a experienced Head of Core Banking to act as the organisation’s subject matter expert for core banking systems, with a strong focus on Sopra Banking Software.

This would be on a 6 month initial contract in London with an excellent day rate on offer.

This is a key leadership role bridging a critical knowledge gap, providing technical oversight, shaping strategy, and ensuring the core banking platform remains scalable, secure, and aligned with digital, cloud, and AI transformation goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and govern all decisions relating to the core banking platform (SBS/SOPRA)
• Act as the internal expert, aligning business needs with platform capabilities
• Provide architectural guidance across integrations and core banking components
• Challenge and evaluate supplier proposals (e.g. Sopra, Atos)
• Drive digital, cloud-native, and event-driven architecture strategies (AWS aligned)

Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in core banking, architecture, or solution design
• Strong hands-on expertise with SBS/SOPRA platforms
• Proven experience influencing stakeholders and challenging vendors
• Deep understanding of banking products and systems
• Experience with large-scale integrations and legacy transformations
• Knowledge of cloud-native and event-driven architectures (AWS preferred)
