Observability Engineer

My client, a leading financial service organisation, is currently seeking a Senior Telemetry and Observability Engineer to join their London office.

You will design and develop a modern observability platform supporting complex distributed systems. This role will focus on building scalable telemetry pipelines and ensuring engineering teams have the tools and visibility required to maintain highly reliable services.

You will be responsible for the Design and implement scalable telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, and events across distributed systems. As well as establish and maintain observability standards across dashboards, alerting frameworks and SLOs working closely with product and platform teams supporting the adoption of the platforms through documentation. In addition, you will promote best practices across monitoring, instrumentation, and incident response across engineering teams supporting.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in observability, site reliability engineering, or platform engineering roles within complex distributed environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with telemetry and monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Elastic, Loki, Jaeger, or similar technologies.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or Java.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures including Kubernetes, microservices, and service meshes.
  • Experience defining and managing service level indicators (SLIs), service level objectives (SLOs), and alerting strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on improving system reliability and developer experience.
