CMDB LeadLocation: London 3 days on-siteEmployment Type: Contract - Initial 6 Month DurationOutisde IR35 - Up to £800 per day.Key SkillsStrong understanding of ITIL principles, particularly Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM).Architectural knowledge of CMDB design and configuration item (CI) relationships.Extensive experience with ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery.Ability to operate at both strategic and detailed technical levels, with a strong understanding of platform interdependencies and modules.Self-motivated individual with strong ownership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.Role SummaryThe CMDB Lead is responsible for defining, governing, and maintaining the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) strategy, architecture, and operating model. This role ensures the CMDB remains accurate, scalable, and aligned to organisational service management objectives.The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in ServiceNow and ITIL best practices, acting as a subject matter expert for Configuration Management and Discovery capabilities. They will evaluate future platform enhancements, support strategic initiatives, and ensure technical solutions effectively support service management processes and business requirements.Working closely with technical teams, process owners, and stakeholders, the CMDB Lead will validate solution architectures, drive continuous improvement, and maintain governance across Configuration Management practices.Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect and design CMDB solutions that support complex business and technology requirements within the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) framework.Design and implement ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM Discovery, and CMDB solutions aligned with business needs and industry best practices.Collaborate with process owners to define configuration management requirements, conduct gap analysis, and develop technical solutions.Develop and maintain configuration models for services, applications, infrastructure, and assets to support incident, problem, change, asset, and service management processes.Ensure accurate service mapping and dependency modelling to support impact analysis, risk assessment, change planning, technology refresh programmes, and operational resilience.Evaluate enhancement and customisation requests, providing design recommendations and technical guidance.Maintain consistency and integrity across CMDB data structures and dependent processes.Produce architecture documentation, design standards, and technical templates.Design and implement automation solutions including workflows, business rules, UI policies, client scripts, and integrations.Manage integrations between the CMDB and external data sources such as endpoint management, cloud platforms, monitoring tools, and asset repositories.Support the development and execution of the Configuration Management and Discovery roadmap.Participate in platform upgrades, testing, validation, and release activities.Develop, maintain, and enforce governance processes, policies, and standards related to Configuration Management and Discovery.Lead or contribute to projects by developing plans, coordinating activities, monitoring progress, and ensuring successful delivery.Qualifications & ExperienceEssentialBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.7+ years of Configuration Management and/or CMDB experience, including 5+ years supporting enterprise-scale ServiceNow environments.Experience creating, maintaining, and governing CMDBs, asset repositories, and configuration management databases within complex IT environments.Strong knowledge of ServiceNow ITOM, ITSM, and Asset Management capabilities.Experience with CSDM, Application Portfolio Management (APM), and Technology Portfolio Management (TPM).Working knowledge of infrastructure technologies including servers, networks, databases, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.), and virtualisation technologies.Deep understanding of ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery and their integration with broader ITSM and ITOM processes.Expert knowledge of ITIL practices, particularly Configuration Management and related service management disciplines.Strong understanding of ServiceNow Discovery, including cloud discovery concepts.Experience optimising ServiceNow data models, standards, and development practices.Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.Adaptable mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and learning.PreferredServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA).ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) – Discovery and/or CMDB.ITIL Foundation, Managing Professional, or equivalent certification.Experience with ServiceNow CSDM 3.0 or later.Experience with:Service MappingAutomated Test Framework (ATF)Vulnerability ManagementScripting experience including JavaScript, Jelly, SQL, or similar technologies.Behavioural CompetenciesAnalytical ThinkingAttention to DetailAccountability and OwnershipEffective CommunicationCritical ThinkingCustomer FocusCollaboration and TeamworkAdaptability and Continuous ImprovementStakeholder ManagementDiversity and Inclusion AwarenessTPBN1_UKTJ
