Contract Android Engineer - Central Government Project (Inside IR35)
I'm looking for an experienced Android Engineer to support a high-profile Central Government programme on an initial 3-month contract. This role offers the chance to work on a large-scale digital service that has real impact across the UK.
Key Details:
- Contract Length: 3 months
- Day Rate: Up to £500 per day
- IR35 Status: Inside IR35
- Location: UK-based, fully remote
- Start Date: Immediate/ASAP
- Current SC is a big plus
The Role:
You will be responsible for developing and enhancing a native Android application within a multidisciplinary agile team. The project focuses on delivering secure, accessible, and user-centric digital services in line with public sector standards.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong commercial experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin (and/or Java)
- Proven Central Government project experience (essential)
- Good understanding of Government Digital Service (GDS) principles and accessibility standards
- Experience working in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
- Knowledge of secure development practices and handling sensitive data
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with modern Android architecture (eg, MVVM, Clean Architecture)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
- Performance optimisation and app scalability experience
- Experience working on high-traffic or mission-critical applications
