Full Stack Java Developer Urgent
We are working with a large, well-established bank undergoing a significant transformation of its core platforms, and we are seeking a Full Stack Developer—more heavily focused on backend engineering—to support this journey. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working with existing technologies while contributing to the modernisation of critical banking systems. The position spans the full software development life cycle, with core technologies centred on Java and React, and suits a developer who values building robust, scalable solutions rather than focusing on the latest trends.
The successful candidate will join a new, dynamic team and take ownership of designing and developing solutions from the ground up. This position is ideal for a developer who enjoys working with both greenfield and brownfield systems, thrives on responsibility, and understands the importance of delivering high-quality outcomes for both the team and the wider business. They will be expected to collaborate closely with Senior Java and React Developers, UI/UX specialists and Agile Transformation functions to help architect and deliver applications in line with best design and development practices. Operating in an Agile/Scrum environment, they will be adept at producing clean, testable and maintainable code and will demonstrate strong analytical skills, technical problem-solving ability, and an understanding of development excellence within the constraints of a regulated banking environment.
This role requires full-lifecycle engineering capability, including functional and non-functional analysis, application architecture and design, coding and unit testing, documentation, manual and automated testing, and support for continuous integration, testing and delivery. The developer will also be expected to write Agile epics and user stories using BDD/Gherkin techniques, maintain a delivery-focused mindset, and continually look for ways to improve team velocity, quality and processes. Strong communication skills and proactive stakeholder engagement are essential, as is the ability to produce clear and visually compelling documentation. Experience using tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Bitbucket is important, alongside the capability to estimate, plan and track work effectively.
Candidates should demonstrate strong client-side development experience with HTML5, CSS3, Sass/Less, JavaScript (ES9/2018), TypeScript, RESTful APIs, React and Webpack, as well as mature server-side coding skills using Java 11+ and SQL (DB2, SQL Server or Postgres preferred). A solid understanding of design patterns, microservices architecture and RESTful API development is required, along with the ability to turn wireframes and UI designs into functioning applications. Experience working in a technical Agile environment—using build tools, static/dynamic code analysis, CI/CD pipelines (such as Jenkins or TeamCity) and automation testing—is essential, as is strong unit-testing capability. Additional knowledge of the Elastic ELK stack, Docker/Kubernetes, Cucumber/Selenium, or IBMi RPG and IBM DB2 would be advantageous. Applicants should possess relevant educational qualifications, demonstrate self-motivation, and show tenacity in driving ideas forward while remaining respectful of other perspectives. Strong written and verbal communication skills, professionalism and a collaborative mindset are key.
As part of the organisation’s commitment to regulatory excellence, the role requires adherence to the six Conduct Rules, including acting with integrity, demonstrating skill and diligence, maintaining transparency with regulators, treating customers fairly, observing proper market standards and ensuring good outcomes for retail customers. The role also aligns with the organisation’s core values—being business-oriented and customer-focused, taking a long-term perspective, showing courage in decision-making, being innovative and proactive, taking responsibility for personal development, maintaining high ethical standards, valuing good administrative order, collaborating effectively and contributing to the development of colleagues and operations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong general competencies, including building effective relationships, embracing change and technology, acting in line with the organisation’s culture, creating business value, understanding role-specific regulations and applying sound risk management, governance and control principles.
