Pay rate: £54.57 PH PAYE or £73.68 PH Umbrella

Role Description
• Technical design authority responsible for Software-based system and sub-system solutions – provide technical ownership of the software solution for the MFR software.
• Responsible for the overall software requirements, design, release and surrounding governance of the solution.
• Provide assurance that the solutions meet performance, security and customer requirements.
• Provide guidance to others for a range of software products as part of a wider software team and resolve engineering issues and problems.
• Champion Software Engineering Principles across the full software development lifecycle.
• Mentor and support the development of engineers across the team promoting best practice and continuous development.
Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
• Derive and maintain a set of software requirements from a baseline set of systems requirements.
• Produce and maintain a software design to meet the set of software requirements.
• Use a software design to direct a team in the production of a deliverable software solution.
• Test a software solution to prove that is meets its design aims and requirements.
• Undertake peer reviews or checking/verification of peers’ solutions across projects.
• Undertake technical reviews, verify and sign software engineering designs.
• Act as an Engineering, technical or design authority for a software solution at a system/sub-system level.
• Maintain a software solution to address reported defects and/or additional functionality.
• Produce and issue software estimates for systems / sub-systems.
• Provide subject matter expertise across P&TS and Maritime Services for software deliveries.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of Maritime & Land Defence Solutions software related processes.
Knowledge:
• Have experience in the technical leadership of complex software developments.
• Have considerable experience of using at least one high level programming language, preferably Ada or C (desirable but not essential).
• Have considerable experience of using a high-level design methodology (e.g. UML)
• Have considerable experience of all aspects of the software lifecycle (SDLC) and good knowledge of different software lifecycle models (e.g. Waterfall, Agile)
• Have good knowledge of appropriate software standards (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEE 12207)
• Have a comprehensive understanding of configuration management and experience of a configuration management tools
