As the business continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Management Accountant & Accounting Team Lead to support the finance function, improve financial visibility and provide day-to-day leadership to a small finance team.
Role OverviewThis is a hands-on role responsible for management accounting, team leadership, credit control oversight, cashflow management and process improvement.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the finance function operates efficiently, producing accurate and timely financial information whilst supporting the wider business with commercial insight and financial control.
This role would suit an experienced Management Accountant, Finance Team Leader or Accounting Team Lead who enjoys working in a growing SME environment and is comfortable balancing operational accounting responsibilities with team management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Management Accounting & Reporting- Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit & loss, balance sheet and cashflow reporting.
- Produce meaningful financial analysis and commentary for senior management.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Monitor business performance and investigate variances against budget and forecast.
- Develop reporting that provides greater visibility of profitability, margins and business performance.
- Lead and support the day-to-day activities of the finance team, including Accounts Assistants and Billing Administrators.
- Review workloads, priorities and deadlines to ensure efficient operation of the department.
- Provide guidance, coaching and support to team members.
- Drive accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement across the finance function.
- Oversee credit control activities and support the team with debt collection processes.
- Review aged debt reports and implement effective collection strategies.
- Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve outstanding debt issues.
- Improve debtor days and strengthen cash collection performance.
- Escalate and manage complex debtor issues where required.
- Maintain and develop rolling cashflow forecasts.
- Monitor working capital and provide visibility of future cash requirements.
- Support payment planning and supplier management activities.
- Identify potential cashflow risks and recommend appropriate actions.
- Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Review balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Strengthen internal controls and approval processes.
- Ensure financial records remain accurate and up to date.
- Review and improve finance processes and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and improve reporting accuracy.
- Support automation initiatives and finance system improvements.
- Help establish scalable processes to support continued business growth.
- Work closely with directors and department managers to provide financial insight and support decision making.
- Build strong relationships across the business.
- Present financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Accounting Team Lead.
- Strong management accounting experience, including month-end reporting and financial analysis.
- Experience supervising or leading finance teams.
- Strong credit control and debtor management experience.
- Excellent cashflow forecasting and working capital management skills.
- Experience improving finance processes and internal controls.
- Strong bookkeeping, reconciliation and month-end close experience.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong systems knowledge.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently whilst supporting and developing a wider team.
- Experience within technology, telecommunications, managed services or professional services businesses.
- Multi-entity finance experience.
- Experience working with ERP or finance systems.
- AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience.
- Accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
- Improved visibility of cashflow and working capital.
- Reduced aged debt and stronger credit control processes.
- Improved financial controls and reporting accuracy.
- A well-supported and efficient finance team.
- Scalable finance processes capable of supporting future business growth.
