This position is for a Senior Digital Developer to join our in-house development team working in a friendly and progressive environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile, public-facing digital services used by blood donors across England, including the Blood Donor Portal, Give Blood app and NHSBT websites. Youll help design and build modern, cloud-based solutions using technologies such as C#, React, React Native and Python, alongside microservices, content platforms and emerging AI capabilities. The team also supports wider digital transformation across the donation journey, replacing legacy and paper-based processes with modern, integrated services. Were looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, works well in a collaborative team and is passionate about building reliable technology with meaningful public impact.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Digital Developer will develop and support digital services, applications and databases in line with NHSBT's business objectives. Responsibilities include:

  • Produce and maintain high-quality documentation for NHSBT applications.
  • Research and review emerging technologies, identifying opportunities and benefits for NHSBT.
  • Maintain existing applications, gather requirements and identify improvements. Support the development of NHSBT's Digital Development Strategy.
  • Ensure disaster recovery processes are appropriate, tested and regularly reviewed.
  • Provide digital development and database support to the Digital Team.
  • Promote analytical skills through training and support for NHSBT staff.
  • Provide advice on the procurement and implementation of third-party systems. Work with suppliers to deliver technology solutions that support NHSBT's strategic aims.
  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence and Data Management teams, providing software, database and technical support.

Essential
  • MSc or Advanced knowledge and substantial proven experience to masters level in software development, with experience in the majority of:
  • C#, .NET Framework 3.5+ inc. ASP.NET/ MVC, .NET Core
  • Visual Studio 2010+
  • OOAD and UML techniques
  • HTML, JavaScript, JQuery
  • XML, XSD, JSON
  • Network architecture and protocols such as SNMP, HTTP, SOAP, SOA-Web Services
  • Phonegap/Cordova
  • Agile / Lean and Traditional methodologies
  • SOLID Design Principles
  • Progressive web app development
  • MS Azure
  • Testing Strategies
  • Testing Tools MS Test, NUnit
  • Automated Testing Tools Selenium

Experience

Essential
  • Direct proven experience of software development methodologies and database design, in both a Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the design, development, management and maintenance of information systems across an organisation.
  • Specialised knowledge of software architectures across a wide range of industry standard platforms.
