Senior System Test Engineer
Job summary
You will be joining NHSBT at a particularly exciting time as we embark on a journey of change, enhancing our current IT service provision.
You will lead the systems testing required to ensure the NHSBT Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation is reliable, robust and innovative. This will involve interactions with various members of the team, being independently able to understand how the bespoke system should work and being able to test it effectively.
This is a challenging but extremely rewarding post which offers a unique opportunity to contribute to saving and improving peoples lives. Main duties of the job
You will be joining an ambitious team striving for excellence with a mindset of continuous improvement. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Apply expert systems test knowledge across the range of technical systems and processes related to the high-profile NHS Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation.
- Technical testing of internally developed IT systems.
- Ensuring the safe and effective delivery of IT-enabled services through thorough software and hardware testing and administrative support.
- Supporting the development and implementation of technology solutions that will ensure the services offered through NHSBT and continue to support donation professionals and improve in terms of quality, accuracy and customer experience.
- Working with a range of internal and external partners from a diverse range of stakeholders such as IT service providers, marketing, external data feed partners and other public services
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in a related subject or equivalent experience.
- Postgraduate diploma in software testing or equivalent experience.
- Certification in software testing from a recognised body (e.g. ISTQB) or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
Experience
- Significant direct experience in the role of system test engineer or equivalent.
- Expert knowledge in black box and white box testing.
- Good knowledge of software testing standards e.g. BS7925-1 & BS7925-2
- Good knowledge of test management, estimation, monitoring and control.
- Experience of testing software systems based on Oracle technologies.
- Experience of testing software systems based on Microsoft .NET technologies.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and its application in the NHSBT environment e.g. GMP.
- Knowledge of software testing in an Agile/Lean software development environment.
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint)
