Associate Director of Commercial and Business Development

Job summary

The Associate Director of Commercial and Business Development is a senior strategic leadership role within HBL ICT Shared Services, responsible for developing and delivering the organisation's commercial growth strategy, business development programme and partnership engagement model.

The post holder will identify and secure new business opportunities, develop strategic partnerships, oversee commercial negotiations and contractual arrangements, and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of HBL ICT.

Working as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the role will contribute to organisational strategy, service transformation and digital innovation across partner organisations.

The post holder will provide expert commercial leadership, influence system-wide digital strategies, and lead initiatives that improve organisational performance, generate income and deliver measurable benefits for patients, partners and the wider health economy.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Commercial and Business Development will lead the development and delivery of HBL ICT Shared Services commercial and business growth strategy. The post holder will identify, evaluate and implement new commercial opportunities and be accountable for the development of strategic partnerships

Operating within an ITIL framework, you will be delivering enterprise-wide solutions across a customer base of circa 10,000 across various NHS organisations within the HBL partnership.

The post holder will be a highly qualified, experienced leader and will have full corporate responsibility and accountability to enhance the service's income generation and support the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation while ensuring alignment with NHS values, governance requirements and patient care objectives.

The role provides expert commercial advice to the Managing Director and senior stakeholders and contributes to the achievement of HBL ICT's strategic objectives.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential
  • Master's degree or equivalent level experience in Business Administration, Commercial Management, Finance, Healthcare Management, Digital Transformation or a related discipline.
  • Significant senior leadership experience within the NHS, public sector or a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
Desirable
  • MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience of working within shared services or collaborative NHS delivery models.

Experience

Essential
  • Extensive experience of developing and implementing commercial growth strategies and business development programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience of identifying, securing and delivering new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Experience of leading complex commercial negotiations and contract discussions with senior stakeholders
  • Exceptional leadership and influencing skills with the ability to build credibility at Executive and Board level

Financial

Essential
  • Significant experience of developing and presenting complex business cases, investment proposals and commercial plans.
  • Experience of budget management, financial forecasting and delivery of financial performance targets.
