Information and Cyber Security Officer
Job summary
The Information & Cyber Security Officer is responsible for supporting the organisation to ensure that patient and organisational data is handled securely and lawfully, in line with NHS England requirements and statutory frameworks.
The postholder will deliver training and assist with audits and risk assessments to promote a culture of accountability and data security across the organisation.
Main duties of the job
The officer supports the effective delivery of services and programmes within the Integrated Care Board (ICB). Working under the management of the IG Senior Manager, the postholder is responsible foridentifyinghow their activities, tasks and responsibilities are delivered to time, quality, and performance standards.
This role focuses on coordinating day-to-day operations, managing small projects or workstreams, and contributing to improvement work that enhances quality, efficiency, and patient experience that may be beyond own area of work. The purpose includes:
1. To manage and coordinate the daily delivery of specific work areas, projects, or service functions within organisational procedures and standards.
2. To provide operational and administrative support to senior colleagues in implementing ICB and system priorities.
3. To supervise and support staff, ensuring that work is well organised, communicated, and delivered effectively.
4. To use data, evidence, and feedback to inform decisions and continuous improvement, devising mechanisms for collecting, reporting and analysing available data.

Job responsibilities
Operational Delivery: Coordinate and oversee the delivery of a number of defined operational activities, ensuring that objectives, deadlines, and performance standards are met. Resolve complex issues and escalate challenges to senior colleagues. This will involve considering complex information and the identification and consideration of a range of options and consideration and analysis of trends that my drive the options.
Service Coordination and Support: Provide practical and administrative leadership for specific projects or workstreams. Support the implementation of service improvement initiatives by organising meetings, preparing reports, and tracking progress. Make adjustments to the plan based on feedback and delivery progress as required.
Team Supervision: Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to staff, ensuring clarity of roles, effective communication, and a positive working environment. Participate in staff appraisal and development discussions under the direction of a IG Senior Manager.
Quality and Improvement: Contribute to a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Gather data, feedback, and evidence to inform service reviews and improvement activity. Support audit and evaluation processes within and beyond own areas of work. Implement the quality improvement process, ensuring learning and adaptation of plans and interventions as required to respond to feedback and performance, considering the options available and data/information to support these options.
Performance and Reporting: Monitor local performance measures and maintain accurate records and reports. Production of information and updates for governance or assurance purposes and participate in identifying mechanisms for collecting data to meet the needs of relevant parties and stakeholders.
Resource and Financial Awareness: Manage allocated resources efficiently and ensure value for money. Handle procurement or budget monitoring tasks within delegated limits, following ICB financial procedures.
Governance and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and statutory requirements. Maintain accurate documentation, risk logs, and audit trails to support safe and transparent service delivery.
Partnership and Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across the ICB, system partners, and external agencies to support joined-up service delivery. Contribute to collaborative projects that improve outcomes for patients and local communities. This may involve communicating complex and sensitive information, seeking agreement, cooperation and collaboration between parties.
Person Specification
Skills
- oEducated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., health, care, public services, management, or related discipline).
- oEvidence of continuous professional development, with a track record of keeping skills and knowledge current.
- oFamiliarity with governance, compliance, and financial procedures in a public sector or healthcare environment
- oStrong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- oAbility to analyse data and use evidence to inform decisions and monitor performance.
- oSound judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
- Experience of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- Experience of Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT)
- Familiar with Data Protection, Cyber and Information Security Risk
- Experience with Information Asset Registers, data flow mapping and record of processing activities
