Azure Infrastructure Engineer
Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join the team.
This role will be supporting the operational management, optimisation and delivery of Microsoft Azure based infrastructure across the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and GP IT.
You will get to be involved in supporting migrations and implementing new designs and solutions across these areas,
This role would suit someone that has experience supporting an azure environment, has a natural ability to troubleshoot, enjoys problem solving and working within an ever changing landscape adapting to fit the needs of the organisation.
Experience working in an IT support role would be an advantage. This could include supporting MS Windows environments, Azure services and administrating Entra.
Main duties of the job
This role will include day to day technical support of the Azure infrastructure, adhering to the organisations governance standards and policies.
The role will require a high level of troubleshooting and investigation, including working on complex azure incidents. You will be working to collaborate with the wider team with cloud migration and infrastructure projects. Working to support and maintain accurate technical documentation. You will also be expected to support endpoint management, software and image deployment services.
You will responsible for day to day monitoring of capacity, performance and security alerts across the Azure services.
The role will require a strong communicator as you will be working across the teams with other engineers, analysts and technical specialists.

The Azure Infrastructure Engineer supports the operational management, optimisation, and secure delivery of Microsoft Azure based infrastructure and any hybrid cloud services across the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and GP IT estate. The post holder ensures that Azure resources, identity services, virtual platforms, networking, backup, monitoring, and cloud security controls are maintained to high standards of performance, availability, and resilience.
The role provides advanced cloud engineering expertise, supporting migration, modernisation, and secure-by design implementation of Azure services. Working under the direction of the Azure Senior Infrastructure Lead and Head of IT Infrastructure & Cyber Operations, the post holder ensures that Azure environments align with organisational policy, cyber security requirements, and national NHS architectural and cyber standards such as NHS.net Connect and DSPT
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience supporting, administering and optimising Microsoft Azure environments, including:
- - Azure Virtual Machines, storage, virtual networking, NSGs, load balancers
- - Azure AD / Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, identity lifecycle
- - Azure Backup, ASR, monitoring, policy, RBAC and governance
- - Hybrid cloud integrations, Azure AD Connect, on-prem connectivity (VPN/ExpressRoute)
- Understanding of cloud security, compliance controls, vulnerability remediation and secure configuration baselines
- Experience managing infrastructure components such as Windows Server, virtualisation (Hyper-V/VMware), networking, endpoint management (Intune/MECM), and M365
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve complex technical incidents across Azure and hybrid environments
- Experience in PowerShell, scripting or Infrastructure-as-Code beneficial
- Ability to analyse complex technical issues, identify solutions and implement improvements with with supervision and guidance where required
- Strong planning and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads, manage change and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills, able to translate technical information into clear, understandable language for non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively within engineering teams and across wider digital functions
- Strong documentation skills, able to maintain accurate architecture diagrams, procedures and technical records
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, data integrity and follow information governance requirements

Qualifications
- Educated in a relevant IT discipline or able to demonstrate equivalent specialist experience at an advanced technical level
- Professional Microsoft Azure certification(s) desirable, such as:
- AZ-104: Azure Administrator Associate (or Working Towards)
- Evidence of continuing professional development in cloud engineering, infrastructure, cyber security or Microsoft technologies
- Demonstrable knowledge of cloud security principles, Zero Trust frameworks, identity management and NHS cyber standards, acquired through training or advanced practice
