The purpose of Infrastructure services is to ensure our services and systems are hosted effectively, securely and efficiently.
The function of Infrastructure services brings all network and hosting infrastructure into a single team which will provide a multi-skilled 24/7 Infra Operations team organised by function and focussed on supporting continual improvement.
The teams are divided into four core areas providing technical and service management expertise:
- hosting
- cloud centre of excellence
- connectivity
- central capabilities
Services are delivered to internal customers and NHS organisations.
We are seeking a Technical Consultant - Network Engineer to provide technical support, administer and make changes on the data network in LAN, WAN, Wireless and Security environments, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar discipline, to join the infrastructure team. The role is an exciting mix of BAU and project work where you will have a real impact on the future of the organisations networking estate.
Main duties of the job
The role will include support to existing and new systems and services. The provided support will be at varied levels of scope and complexity, ranging from small changes tracked in our issue management application to managing larger projects involving other team members and stakeholders from other teams.
This role will also contribute to internal team projects to support and enhance the existing services, such as hardware refreshes, performance improvements, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.

The post of Technical Consultant has been awarded a Recruitment and Retention Premia (RRP) in response to current labour market conditions. In recognition of this, the role attracts an additional monthly RRP payment equal to 13% per annum.
To meet National Security Vetting requirements, SC clearances require 5 years continuous UK residency. In certain cases, this can be reduced to three years continuous UK residency, with additional overseas checks for the previous two years.
Candidates who were posted abroad for service with HM Government, Armed Forces or within a UK government role - will still be considered.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
- Significant experience with routing and switching including IOS and NXOS, LAN / WAN technologies, routing protocols, SDWAN technology, Cisco next generation Firepower Threat Defence (FTD) and including ASA technology, Cisco SDA technologies.
- Understanding of network load balancing technologies, including F5 LTM, DNS/DHCP, BIND DNS and F5 DNS, Experience with Cisco ISE, Dot1x and Radius., Cisco Wireless LAN controllers, SSID's and access points, Structured approach to troubleshooting and fault-finding including root cause analysis.
Skills
- Proven ability to effectively negotiate with customers/service owners
- Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload and effectively manage conflicting demands and expectations
Qualifications
- Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) or equivalent
- Master's degree or equivalent experience
