Job Summary:

The Financial Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial accounting, reporting and compliance activities for the UK and Irish entities. Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager and working closely with the Director of Finance and the Barcelona Shared Service Centre, the role owns key month-end and year-end processes, maintains robust balance-sheet controls, supports statutory and group reporting, and coordinates audit and tax compliance deliverables.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Financial Close and Reporting.
  • Own designated month-end and year-end close activities for the UK and Irish entities, ensuring all entries are complete, accurate and delivered to timetable.
  • Prepare, review and post journals for payroll, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, right-of-use assets, and other assigned accounting areas.
  • Prepare and review balance-sheet reconciliations, investigate reconciling items and ensure timely resolution of outstanding balances.
  • Manage intercompany accounting, confirmations and reconciliations, resolving differences with group entities and the Shared Service Centre.
  • Assist with month-end intercompany processes, including confirmations, reconciliations and resolution of outstanding differences.
  • Review general ledger activity at month end, investigate unusual movements and provide clear supporting analysis for approval.
  • Support monthly and quarterly reporting packs, including variance analysis and commentary on material movements.
  • Statutory Reporting, Audit and Tax.
  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and ensure reporting is consistent with applicable accounting standards and group policies.
  • Prepare audit schedules, respond to external and internal audit queries, and coordinate timely completion of requested evidence.
  • Coordinate corporation tax, VAT, withholding tax reclaims and non-residence certificate requirements with external advisers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support quarterly and year-end group consolidation and reporting requirements.
  • Controls and Process Improvement.
  • Maintain effective financial controls and complete, audit-ready supporting documentation for all assigned balances and journals.
  • Work with the Shared Service Centre to monitor accounts-payable processes, resolve accounting issues and improve the quality and timeliness of financial data.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise, automate and improve finance processes, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Support wider finance projects and provide accounting guidance to business stakeholders when required.
  • Ad hoc responsibilities
  • Support finance projects, system changes and process-improvement initiatives as required.
  • Prepare financial analysis and supporting information in response to emerging business, audit or regulatory requirements.
  • Raise SAP resale purchase orders, ensuring appropriate approval and supporting documentation are maintained.
  • Manage the SAP accounts payable relationship, liaising with the Shared Service Centre to resolve queries and support timely and accurate processing.
  • Undertake other reasonable finance, accounting and regulatory duties consistent with the scope and seniority of the role.

Qualifications:

  • Part-qualified and actively progressing towards completion, newly qualified, qualified or qualified by experience through ACCA, ACA, CIMA or an equivalent recognised professional accounting body.

Required Skills / Attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience completing at least two full month-end close cycles, including preparing journals, balance-sheet reconciliations and supporting financial reports to agreed deadlines.
  • Ability to explain and apply the accounting treatment for accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, right-of-use assets and intercompany balances, supported by accurate calculations and documentation.
  • Ability to use Excel to analyse financial data and prepare reconciliations using formulas, lookups, pivot tables and data-validation checks.
  • Evidence of investigating accounting differences from source data through to resolution, documenting the cause, conclusion and corrective action within reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to produce clear accounting schedules and written explanations that can be reviewed by finance managers, advisers and auditors without material rework.
  • Evidence of managing recurring deliverables against a documented close timetable, escalating risks promptly and completing agreed actions by their due dates.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with SAP, Concur or comparable enterprise finance and purchase-order systems.
  • Experience supporting statutory accounts, external audit, group reporting or tax compliance.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or applicable UK accounting requirements.
  • Experience working with a shared-service centre or across teams in different locations.
