An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Flow Room Manager to join a leading UK retailer and play a pivotal role within a highly automated eCommerce fulfilment operation.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the live operation of an automated distribution centre, ensuring the seamless movement of products through the fulfilment process while maintaining service, productivity and customer delivery commitments.
Working alongside Operations, Engineering, Inventory and Technology teams, you will act as the central operational control point for the site's automation, making real-time decisions that maximise throughput, resolve operational challenges and deliver outstanding performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the real-time control and optimisation of a highly automated warehouse operation, ensuring customer orders flow efficiently through the fulfilment process.
- Monitor operational performance using live dashboards and warehouse systems, tracking throughput, capacity, utilisation, backlog and service levels.
- Make data-driven decisions to balance workloads, remove bottlenecks and maintain operational efficiency across both automated and manual processes.
- Coordinate operational recovery during system disruptions, ensuring incidents are managed effectively and service impact is minimised.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering and Technology teams to maximise automation uptime and overall system performance.
- Identify operational risks, constraints and exceptions, implementing solutions to protect customer service and dispatch performance.
- Produce meaningful operational reporting and performance insight to support decision making and drive improvements.
- Lead root cause analysis following operational issues, implementing long-term corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives across warehouse processes, automation performance and operational controls.
- Develop and maintain robust operating procedures, governance and best practice within the control function.
- Build strong relationships with operational stakeholders to optimise end-to-end warehouse performance.
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement and operational excellence.
You must have:
- Experience leading teams within highly automated warehouse operation
- A strong understanding of warehouse automation, operational control and workflow
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret live operational data and respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments.
- Experience developing leaders and operational teams to consistently deliver high performance.
- A continuous improvement mindset with experience delivering measurable operational efficiencies.
