IT Senior Engineer

Summary

We're looking for an IT Senior Engineer to join our team. This role is a great opportunity to further enhance your career within IT for a leading charitable organisation.

The National Trust continues to make £multi-million investments to transform our technology capability in support of our cause. That’s no small task when you consider the incredible breadth of what we do. We strive to deliver powerful infrastructural changes with an ambitious technological roadmap. This journey of transformation will deliver phenomenal benefits for our organisation and dramatically enhance how we connect people with our cause. We have a brand new business strategy – a strategy which will bring big delivery challenges as well as one huge opportunity for your career.

What it's like to work here

You’ll be part of a collaborative IT team that works closely with colleagues throughout the organisation. The team values openness, learning, and shared ownership, bringing together a broad mix of specialisms to deliver technology that is secure, resilient, and user-focused. Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

As a trusted technical authority within the Trust, you will be a key go-to person, assisting in Identity Access Management, with a particular focus on Entra ID, Conditional Access, and the Enterprise Security capabilities within Microsoft 365. You will also bring strong expertise in Microsoft Exchange, guiding the organisation in delivering secure, scalable, and innovative solutions.

In this role, you will help shape and implement modern identity, AI capabilities and security practices, championing best-in-class approaches to access management and mobility protection. You’ll lead technical change with clarity and purpose—maintaining strong communication, building confidence across teams, and inspiring others through your passion for impactful technology.

As a key contributor within your technical stream, you’ll ensure consistency of approach, promote high standards across the team, and foster effective cross-functional collaboration across IT and the wider organisation. At the heart of everything you do, will be a commitment to our purpose and a drive to use technology to make a meaningful, positive difference.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

  • A drive in supporting adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and automation
  • Strong expertise in Identity and Access Management, including Microsoft Entra ID and Conditional Access
  • Proven experience administering and supporting Microsoft Exchange and collaboration services
