Technical Consultant - Global Computing

* The Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering team is responsible for engineering and delivering solutions and infrastructure to support client's global desktop, laptop, virtual desktop and thin client estate. The estate includes around 11,500 laptops, 1,200 Macs, 1,500 PCs, 3,200 virtual desktops and 3,000 thin clients and supporting infrastructure across 28 countries. The incumbent will be a member of the Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering Team, reporting to the GCC Engineering manager. The primary focus of the role is engineering, troubleshooting and design of the following: Windows 11 group policy, security hardening, build optimisation, least-privilege access, and performance optimisation required to keep our current estate updated and operating efficiently. Microsoft Modern Desktop, including AutoPilot for device provisioning, Intune policy management, software and configuration deployment. End User Experience monitoring and optimisation. Enterprise endpoint security and remote access solutions. Candidates will work closely with other service areas within Technology such as Cyber Defence, Network, Data Services, Project Office, Enterprise Engineering, Architecture, and Regional Desktop Support teams to ensure that appropriate tools and processes are in place to aid in their operations and improve time to market where possible. Further to this, the role will include training others as part of a centre of excellence, looking to bring up skills across the organisation and ensure consistent standards. Responsibilities will include: Providing escalation support and in-depth investigation capability for the GCC group Microsoft Secure Score continuous assessment, testing and improvement Evaluating, engineering and implementing (where appropriate) IT Security feature enhancement requests for the global endpoint estate Engineering solutions to help automate Evergreen processes such as: Self-service testing capability for application support and development teams to consume AutoPatch / Windows Update for Business Major Windows O/S updates Developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts for endpoint management automation tasks Ensuring systems and automated processes are designed with high availability and data protection in mind. Maintaining support documentation and issue tracking using Confluence and Jira Experience & qualifications Endpoint & access management: Experience with Microsoft Intune and SCCM, and strong understanding of MDM/MAM/Conditional Access and Defender for Endpoint. Enterprise level Group Policy and Active Directory implementation and troubleshooting skills. Desktop engineering: Advanced Windows 11 troubleshooting. Desktop and Infrastructure troubleshooting and optimisation skills in an Enterprise environment Automation-first: Advanced PowerShell Security tools and principles: Attack Surface Reduction, Least privilege access, Windows hardening, confident engagement with InfoSec. Networking foundations: SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP, proxies, remote access and load balancers. Communication: Clear written/verbal communication and presentation skills for technical and senior audiences. Process: ITIL certification (desirable) and familiarity with structured change management.
