Interim Data Scientist

The Opportunity:

Our client is a specialist commercial lender at an early stage of its data strategy. Having recently completed the initial build of its data infrastructure within Databricks and Power BI, the business is now looking to appoint an experienced interim to lead the transition from engineering to value creation.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a commercially minded Data Scientist who can operate autonomously within a small, founder-led environment. The immediate priority is to enhance credit decisioning capability, leveraging the newly established data architecture.

Cultural fit will be critical. The successful candidate will need to work sensitively and collaboratively with founders unaccustomed to data-led processes, guiding them through the commercial value of analytics while establishing trust and credibility.

Key Requirements:

• Demonstrable experience in credit risk analytics and credit decisioning models
• Ideally, a track record within commercial mortgage lending or related secured lending markets
• Proficient in Databricks and Power BI environments
• A proven self-starter, comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, unstructured business
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to extract business-critical information from non-technical stakeholders
• Strong commercial awareness, able to prioritise opportunities for maximum business impact
• Interest in contributing to a longer-term data strategy beyond the initial assignment
