Senior IT Engineer

Role Overview

Our client a leading charity is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Senior IT Engineer to lead the delivery, support, and continuous improvement of core infrastructure services. This is a hands-on role where you will oversee systems performance, security, and user support while helping to shape the organisation’s IT roadmap. You’ll act as a technical expert, project contributor, and mentor within the wider IT team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Core Service Delivery:
  • Manage the provision of infrastructure services to ensure reliability, availability, and optimal performance across all supported teams.
  • Helpdesk Oversight:
  • Monitor and resolve support requests in line with service expectations, escalating issues appropriately to second- or third-line support as required.
  • Service Enhancement:
  • Collaborate with internal teams to assess evolving needs and recommend or implement improvements to IT tools and systems.
  • Endpoint Security Management:
  • Administer and update endpoint protection across all user devices to ensure systems remain secure and compliant.
  • User Account Administration:
  • Set up and manage user profiles, access permissions, and credentials across various systems, ensuring operational integrity and data protection.
  • Systems Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate technical records and documentation for new deployments, updates, and decommissioning of systems.
  • Training & User Enablement:
  • Produce user-friendly guidance and deliver one-to-one or group training sessions to help reduce dependence on IT support.
  • Project Implementation:
  • Contribute technical expertise to infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery in line with project goals.
  • Team Mentorship:
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and coaching to junior IT team members, helping them build confidence and capability.
  • Management Support:
  • Deputise for the IT Infrastructure Manager during absences or periods of peak demand to help maintain operational continuity.
  • Ad-hoc Duties:
  • Support additional tasks as required by senior management in line with the level and scope of the role.

Person Profile

Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience supporting IT infrastructure in a complex, multi-user environment.
  • Skilled in deploying and managing Windows Server environments (2016+).
  • Confident with Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, Hyper-V, and Windows 11.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud technologies and virtualisation tools.
  • Familiar with security software and best practices for device protection.
  • Competent in networking fundamentals including TCP/IP and LAN/WAN configurations.
  • Skilled in managing endpoint devices and IT hardware.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

Qualifications

  • A-Level education or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certification or training in IT systems, infrastructure, or network management.
