Position: Head of Business Development - Commercial Industry: IT Managed Services Salary: £65,000 base + £5,000 car allowance + £65,000 OTE (Uncapped)Location: North of England (Nationwide offices available)Reporting to: Senior Leadership Team
Position Overview
The Head of Business Development - Commercial will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of IT Managed Services within the UK commercial sector. This brand-new role provides the opportunity to shape and own the business development strategy, building long-term partnerships with mid-market and enterprise clients, and delivering sustainable revenue and margin growth.
The successful candidate will bring expertise in IT Managed Services and related solutions (cloud, cyber security, digital transformation), with the ability to identify, secure, and develop new commercial opportunities nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Market Development* Develop and execute a business development strategy to drive revenue growth in the commercial sector.* Analyse market trends, client needs, and competitor activities to identify new opportunities.* Align sales activity with the organisation's long-term goals and objectives.
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management* Identify, engage, and secure new business opportunities across commercial markets.* Build strong relationships with C-level decision-makers and key stakeholders.* Create tailored proposals and presentations that clearly demonstrate value.* Oversee the journey from lead generation through to contract closure and handover to delivery teams.
Revenue Growth & Commercial Leadership* Consistently achieve and exceed revenue and margin targets.* Negotiate and close complex managed service and technology contracts.* Monitor commercial performance and adjust strategy where needed.
Collaboration & Team Engagement* Work closely with technical, delivery, operations, and marketing teams to ensure seamless client engagement.* Act as a senior commercial leader, providing input, mentoring, and direction to wider sales colleagues.* Report to senior leadership on pipeline performance, forecasts, and strategic wins.
Industry Presence* Represent the business at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities.* Build a strong network within the IT Managed Services and wider commercial technology sector.
Key Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience* Proven track record in business development or commercial leadership within IT Managed Services, Cloud, or Cyber Security.* 5+ years of experience in successfully delivering large-scale new business growth in the commercial sector.* Demonstrable success in winning new contracts and achieving/exceeding seven-figure revenue targets.
Skills & Expertise* Strong understanding of managed IT services, infrastructure, cloud solutions, and cyber security.* Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical solutions to commercial clients.* Strong negotiation and contract management skills.* Proficiency in CRM platforms and sales pipeline management.
Personal Attributes* Strategic thinker with a proactive, results-driven approach.* Highly motivated self-starter able to build and lead business development initiatives from scratch.* Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with a strong executive presence.
Performance Metrics* Success in this role will be measured by:* Annual revenue and margin growth achieved.* Value and number of new client contracts secured.* Expansion of market share within the UK commercial sector.* Long-term client satisfaction and retention levels.
