Senior IT Engineer

Position: Senior IT Engineer Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire Hours: Full Time Salary: Packages up to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience) + business/performance-related bonus

As they continue to expand, they are looking for a well-presented, customer-focused, and personable Senior Engineer to join their Fyfield office.

You will play a crucial role in implementing and managing new projects and installations, providing on-site end-user support, and maintaining existing infrastructure. Responsibilities include problem analysis, documentation, and ensuring configurations meet the highest standards.

Proven ability to build strong customer relationships

Expertise in both remote and on-site support

Technical skills should include:

Cisco Expertise: Strong knowledge of Cisco routers and switches

Networking: TCP/IP connectivity and IT security

Firewall: Configuration, management, and reporting (Fortinet)

Windows Server: 2016, 2019, and 2022

Communication: High-level written and verbal skills

Virtualisation: Windows Hyper-V

Identity & Access: Active Directory / Azure AD Administration

Microsoft Stack: Azure, Office 365 & Intune

Device Support: Windows 10/11, Apple devices, Intune, Apple and Meraki MDM

Backup & DR: Backup technologies and disaster recovery strategies

SQL: Microsoft SQL Server experience advantageous

What our client is looking for Network Design and Implementation

Architecting scalable networking solutions based on business requirements

Working with senior management to define internal policies and procedures

Creating network topologies and diagrams

Recommending network hardware and software to improve service and profitability

Implementing network technologies and system upgrades

Support, Network Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Monitoring network performance and identifying potential issues

Conducting analysis and resolving complex network problems

Ensuring systems are monitored and backed up at agreed intervals

Performing routine maintenance checks

Providing or organising on-site end-user support

Escalating critical issues to management

Network Security

Implementing network security policies and best practices

Ensuring systems are protected and access is appropriately restricted

Identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities

Testing and applying patches/firmware to maintain system security

Capacity Planning & Optimisation

Assessing network capacity and planning for future growth

Analysing traffic patterns and making performance adjustments

Implementing load balancing strategies

Team Leadership & Mentorship

Providing technical guidance to junior engineers

Training and supporting team members on new technologies

Reviewing and approving network changes

Supporting other teams when necessary to maintain operational continuity

Documentation & Reporting

Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation, diagrams, and procedures

Producing performance and security reports for management

Network Management Tasks

Operational management of networking systems

Overseeing field engineers to ensure project and contract timelines are met

Advising senior management on staffing and scheduling requirements

Managing network-related projects

Participating in management meetings and cross-team collaborations

Assisting with engineer reviews and training schedules

Ensuring new deployments and upgrades are updated within monitoring and documentation tools (WUG/SolarWinds/IT Glue)
