Senior IT Engineer

Job Title: Senior IT Engineer Location: Peterborough (On-site) Salary: £40,000 per annum

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Service Desk Engineer to join our clients growing team in Peterborough. This role is ideal for an experienced IT professional with strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. In addition to being a senior escalation point for the service desk, this role will also involve leading and supporting IT projects across their client base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior escalation point for technical issues across the service desk.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support across Microsoft, networking, and cloud environments.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, helping them develop their technical and customer service skills.
  • Ensure timely resolution of incidents and service requests, meeting agreed SLAs.
  • Take ownership of complex technical problems through to resolution, engaging with third-party vendors when necessary.
  • Proactively identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to processes, systems, and documentation.
  • Lead and manage IT projects (e.g., infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and deployments) from planning through to delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of technical solutions, project plans, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Champion best practices for IT security, compliance, and service delivery.

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Microsoft SharePoint
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Networking Technologies (switching, routing, VLANs, Wi-Fi)
  • Active Directory (advanced administration, group policy, permissions)
  • Firewalls, Router & VPN Technologies (WatchGuard desirable)
  • VoIP/SIP knowledge (desirable)

Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment (essential).
  • Proven experience in a senior/lead service desk or 2nd/3rd line support role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to IT projects.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, Prince2/Agile) are highly desirable.
