The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Critical Engineering Shift Leader to join a high-profile technical facilities management contract in London.
The role is based within a large, technically complex corporate environment supporting a gloval financial services organisation. You will be part of an engineering team responsible for maintaining a resilient, reliable and efficient building operation across a highly serviced workplace.
Working on a 12-hour shift pattern covering both days and nights, you will be responsible for the operation, monitoring and maintenance of building engineering systems, including electrical and mechanical infrastructure, BMS and smart building technologies.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys working in a critical environment and wants exposure to advanced building sytems and integrated technology.
Key Responsibilities
You will operate and monitor building engineering systems, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and operational at all times.
The role will involve carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, routine plant inspections and operational checks across the site.
You will monitor Building Management Systems and other computerised control systems, responding to alarms and system alerts, diagnosing faults and escalating issues where specialist support is required.
You will work with integrated building technologies including HVAC, lighting, security, fire alarm and energy management systems.
The role will also involve troubleshooting sensors, controllers, smart building equipment and associated connectivity issues.
Where required, you will carry out approved programming and configuration changes to building systems under the direction of the engineering team.
You will maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system changes, faults and remedial works using the site's CMMS/CAFM systems.
You will work closely with specialist contractors and suppliers when additional technical support is required.
A key part of the role will be identifying opportunities to improve building performance, energy efficiency and overall engineering reliability.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Electrical or Mechanical Engineer with previous experience working within a critical engineering environment.
You should be technically confident and comfortable working independently on a shift basis, including responding to faults and operational issues during out-of-hours periods.
Experience working with BMS, building automation systems or integrated building technologies is highly desirable.
You will need strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to understand how different building systems interact and depend upon one another.
Previous experience within data centres, financial services, commercial offices, healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing or other critical environments would be advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates should ideally have:
- City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical or mechanical engineering discipline.
- Previous experience working within a critical engineering or technically complex facility.
- Strong understanding of building services and engineering systems.
- Experience operating and monitoring BMS or other computerised building control systems.
- Good IT skills and experience using CAFM/CMMS systems.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
- Experience working safely within controlled engineering environments.
The following would be advantageous, although training/refresher training can be provided where appropriate:
- HV/LV experience.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations for electrical candidates.
- Confined Space Authorised Person.
- Mechanical Pressure Systems Authorised Person.
- Experience with smart building technologies, IoT devices, sensors and controllers.
- Basic BMS programming or configuration experience.
