Oil Markets Analyst | London | 12-Month Contract - Python/LLM/SQL - Data

£175 per day PAYE | Initial 12-Month Contract

We're looking for an Oil Markets Analyst to join a leading global research and analytics organisation, helping deliver insight into global oil markets through a combination of commodity expertise, data analysis, and advanced coding.

This role sits at the intersection of energy markets, data science, and research, offering the opportunity to work with large-scale datasets, develop market models, automate analytical workflows, and contribute directly to market-facing research and forecasts.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Build and enhance models covering oil market fundamentals and pricing
  • Develop automated data pipelines using Python and SQL
  • Analyse large, complex datasets to identify market trends and trading signals
  • Produce forecasts, scenarios, and market insights for clients
  • Create data visualisations, dashboards, and analytical tools
  • Improve and maintain research methodologies and datasets
  • Collaborate with data, engineering, and commercial teams to develop scalable analytical products
  • Publish clear, concise research and communicate findings to stakeholders

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong Python experience for data analysis, modelling and automation
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools
  • Practical SQL skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capability
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets
  • Excel proficiency
  • Experience producing visualisations and data-driven insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience within oil, commodities, energy markets, trading analytics, or market intelligence
  • Time-series analysis, forecasting, econometrics, or statistical modelling experience
  • Experience working with APIs, cloud data tools, geospatial data, or alternative datasets
  • Knowledge of libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Polars, Statsmodels, or Scikit-Learn
