Information Technology Engineer

IT Engineer

London | Hybrid

Salary: Up to £55,000

We are working with a London-based organisation to recruit an experienced IT Engineer to join a small, collaborative technology team. The role supports a geographically distributed user base and a modern IT environment with a strong focus on reliability, security, and service quality.

This is a broad, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and working closely with the business.

As an IT Engineer, you will be a key point of contact for day-to-day technology support while also contributing to the ongoing operation and improvement of the IT estate. The role combines end-user support, systems administration, cloud platforms, and infrastructure operations.

You will interact with users at all levels of the organisation and work in a hybrid model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical support to end users, both onsite and remotely
  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues
  • Support users across multiple locations, ensuring consistent service delivery
  • Prepare, configure, and deploy laptops, mobile devices, and user applications
  • Manage incidents through to resolution, coordinating with third-party suppliers where required
  • Administer and maintain cloud-based and on-premise systems
  • Support day-to-day infrastructure operations and platform stability
  • Participate in a rotating out-of-hours support schedule
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on improving reliability, security, and efficiency
  • Maintain clear and accurate technical and operational documentation

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Several years' experience in a broad IT support, operations, or engineering role
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows 11 desktop environments
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, including identity, device management, and collaboration tools
  • Experience supporting cloud platforms and virtualised environments
  • Awareness of security best practices, access controls, and data protection principles
  • Exposure to backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Scripting or automation experience (e.g. PowerShell, Power Automate)
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and service providers
  • Relevant technical certifications (Microsoft, networking, or security)
  • A technical or scientific academic background

Personal Attributes

  • Confident communicator, comfortable supporting a wide range of users
  • Strong service mindset with a practical, solution-focused approach
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a small team
  • Well organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Curious and keen to learn new technologies

What's On Offer

  • Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working with a London office base
  • Broad technical exposure rather than a narrowly defined role
  • A position with real ownership and the opportunity to influence how IT is delivered
