IT Systems Manager

The Opportunity

A well-established engineering and fabrication services business is seeking an experienced IT Systems Manager to take ownership of its technology environment and act as the key liaison between the business and its external IT and cyber security partners.

The IT Systems Manager will be responsible for ensuring the organisation's IT services remain secure, reliable and aligned to business objectives. The role combines technology leadership, supplier management, cyber security oversight and project delivery, with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement across the IT estate. Candidates must be able to obtain SC clearance.The Role Reporting to the Finance Director, the IT Systems Manager will take ownerships of the business's IT operations. You will:
  • Manage the performance of the organisation's Managed Service Provider (MSP) and other technology partners. 
  • Maintain oversight of Microsoft 365, identity management, infrastructure, networks, telecommunications and business-critical systems.
  • Lead supplier reviews, monitor service levels and ensure accountability for delivery.
  • Coordinate cyber security activities, remediation programmes and security improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee IT projects, technology change programmes and systems enhancements.
  • Support business continuity, disaster recovery and resilience planning.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to identify opportunities for automation, process improvement and emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Manage IT budgets, contracts, licensing and technology procurement activities.
  • Ensure a positive end-user experience across office, operational and site-based teams.
The Person With previous experience in an IT Management role, you will possess:
  • Experience managing MSPs and outsourced technology services.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Active Directory and modern IT environments.
  • Broad understanding of infrastructure, networking, endpoints, backups and telecommunications.
  • Experience delivering IT projects and managing service performance.
  • Good knowledge of cyber security principles, controls and risk management.
  • Strong communication, organisational and commercial skills.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
Desirable Experience
  • Engineering, manufacturing, industrial or regulated-sector environments.
  • Cyber Essentials Plus or similar compliance frameworks, such as ISO 27001 or NIST 
  • Business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
