Investment Data Analyst
A rapidly scaling, technology-driven organisation at the intersection of data, finance and advanced analytics is seeking an Investment Data Analyst to join its high-performing team in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Formed as a joint venture between a global consulting firm and a leading hedge fund, the business has grown from 0 to more than 150 people in just over two years, attracting exceptional talent from across the UK and internationally. With a clear ambition to build a centre of excellence in the North East, this is a unique opportunity to work within a hedge fund environment—without relocating to London—while contributing to complex, real-world investment challenges.
The Role:As an Investment Data Analyst, you will play a key role in managing, analysing and enhancing financial data that underpins investment decision-making.
Working closely with trading teams, quants and investment desks, you will transform raw data into meaningful insights, ensuring quality, consistency and usability across the platform.
This is a highly collaborative and analytical position, combining technical data skills with a strong understanding of financial markets. You will sit at the intersection of data, technology and investment, helping to shape how data is used across the business.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and curate raw data from external vendors and across the financial ecosystem.
Partner with trading teams and investment specialists to deliver insights, analysis and visualisations.
Identify gaps in data coverage and work collaboratively to resolve them.
Ensure data quality, consistency and completeness across all systems.
Develop and maintain documentation, including data dictionaries and definitions.
Work alongside Data Engineers and technology teams to enhance data platforms and processes.
Stay current with industry trends, data vendors and evolving tooling.
We are looking for a detail-oriented, intellectually curious individual with a passion for financial data and its application in investment management. You will thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment and enjoy working collaboratively to solve complex problems.
You are likely to bring:
- A strong academic background, including a 2:1 (or above) from a leading university and excellent A-Level results (or equivalents).
- A demonstrable interest in financial markets and investment management.
- Strong technical capability in Python and SQL.
- Experience in data analysis, including visualisation and exploratory techniques.
- A detail-focused approach with the ability to interrogate and validate complex data.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset, strong ownership and a desire to continuously learn and improve.
Desirable:
Experience working within financial services or investment environments.
Familiarity with financial data vendors and data sourcing techniques.
