Lead Engineer

Company

Our client is a large, established North East organisation undertaking a significant technology modernisation programme. With a strong focus on innovation, digital transformation and operational excellence, the business develops and maintains a suite of bespoke applications that support critical business operations across multiple sites and locations.

The organisation offers long-term career opportunities, a collaborative culture and the chance to influence the direction of technology within a complex and evolving environment. The position is based in the Teesside area, with a flexible hybrid working model following an initial onboarding period.

Role

This is a hands-on technical leadership position, combining software engineering, architecture and stakeholder engagement. You will take ownership of the design, development and delivery of business-critical applications while helping shape the future technology strategy of the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of enterprise-scale applications using C#/.NET and Angular.
  • Defining technical architecture, development standards and best practices across the software estate.
  • Driving cloud adoption and modernisation initiatives within a growing Azure environment.
  • Working closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, challenge assumptions and deliver effective solutions.
  • Providing technical leadership and oversight to both internal teams and third-party development partners.
Salary is depending on experience but likely to be around £60,000. The role will require some time on site, likely to decrease with time served and not expected to be more than 2 days per week, so locally based candidates would be preferable.Person

We are looking for an experienced Senior, Lead or Principal Developer who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability and commercial awareness.

You'll possess:

  • Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET, Angular and modern software development practices.
  • Experience designing and delivering complex software solutions and technical architectures.
  • Exposure to Azure and cloud-native technologies.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders, challenge constructively and drive positive change.
  • A proactive, delivery-focused mindset with the confidence to take ownership and lead from the front.

Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD practices, data platforms or working alongside third-party development teams would be advantageous but is not essential.
