Power Platform Specialist

Company Our client is a well-established, customer-focused organisation with a significant distribution network across the UK. Technology plays a central role in its ongoing transformation, supporting operations across retail, logistics, warehousing, merchandising, product, supplier management and finance.Following significant investment in its core business systems, the organisation is building greater internal capability across Microsoft Business Central, Power Apps and the wider Power Platform. This appointment will help the business take greater ownership of its systems, improve integration across its technology estate and identify new opportunities for automation and operational improvement.The successful candidate will join a collaborative IT function with access to experienced business stakeholders, ERP specialists, developers and trusted external technology partners.Role The Business Systems Specialist will be responsible for the ongoing development of a business-critical Retail Power App and its integration with Microsoft Business Central and other surrounding platforms.Working across the full delivery lifecycle, you will translate commercial and operational requirements into practical technical solutions. You will contribute to system architecture, deliver application enhancements and help the organisation make better use of its existing Microsoft technology.Key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and maintaining applications using Microsoft Power Apps and the wider Power Platform
  • Supporting integrations between Power Apps, Business Central and third-party applications and services
  • Designing and delivering APIs, interfaces and system integrations
  • Translating business requirements and scoping documents into technical specifications and development solutions
  • Working with stakeholders to refine requirements, identify risks and recommend appropriate technical approaches
  • Identifying and delivering opportunities for process optimisation, workflow improvement and automation
  • Using configuration wherever possible to protect core application integrity and minimise technical debt
  • Delivering appropriate small and medium-sized technical changes internally
  • Contributing to the longer-term architecture of Business Central and associated business systems
  • Supporting the effective management of production, test and development environments
  • Investigating complex or escalated application issues that require deeper technical expertise
  • Monitoring and improving system performance across Power Apps, Power Platform and Dataverse
  • Maintaining high standards of data integrity, application security and technical documentation
  • Working constructively with external technology partners on larger or more complex solutions
  • Supporting continuous improvement across systems, development practices and delivery processes
This is a hands-on technical role rather than a purely functional or project management position. The successful candidate will be expected to understand what can be achieved through standard configuration, while also possessing the development and integration skills required to deliver changes beyond out-of-the-box functionality.The client is expecting candidates to be on site for a minimum of 3 days per week. Remote working or more flexible working arrangements are not an option.Person Candidates should have substantial hands-on experience of Microsoft Power Apps and the associated Power Platform services, ideally gained within a complex retail, logistics, distribution or similarly operational environment.Essential requirements include:
  • At least five years’ experience working with Microsoft Power Apps and associated services
  • Strong practical knowledge of Power Platform development
  • Experience supporting business-critical retail and/or logistics applications
  • Demonstrable experience integrating Power Apps with Business Central and third-party systems
  • Good knowledge of APIs, interfaces and system integration principles
  • The technical capability to develop solutions, rather than solely gather requirements or manage external suppliers
  • Experience translating business requirements into clear technical specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to review proposed solutions critically and identify risks, limitations and opportunities for improvement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical subjects in clear business language
  • A customer-focused and commercially aware approach
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • A proactive, self-motivated working style and the confidence to take ownership of delivery
  • The ability to work independently while making a positive contribution to a collaborative team
Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Microsoft Business Central, including configuration and technical development
  • Dataverse
  • Azure platforms and services
  • Azure integration or API management technologies
  • AL development
  • Application lifecycle management and structured development environments
  • A degree in a development-related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
