Data Engineer
The Opportunity:
A high‐growth, technology‐led organisation is seeking a talented Data Engineer to join its rapidly expanding team in Newcastle upon Tyne. Formed as a joint venture between a leading global management consultancy and a top‐tier hedge fund, the business is building a centre of excellence focused on delivering advanced data and technology solutions across financial services and beyond.
In under two years, the organisation has scaled from zero to over 150 people, attracting exceptional talent from across the UK and internationally. With ambitious growth plans and a reputation for hiring only the very best, this is a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge of data engineering—within a hedge fund environment—without the need to relocate to London.
The Role:
As a Data Engineer, you will play a central role in designing, building and evolving a sophisticated central data platform that underpins critical investment decisions and analytics capability.
Working within a high‐performing Data Analytics team, your focus will be on delivering robust, scalable pipelines, maintaining data integrity, and continuously enhancing the platform to meet evolving business needs.
This is a hands‐on role in a fast‐paced, intellectually demanding environment where you will collaborate closely with technical experts and business stakeholders, contributing directly to high‐impact outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high‐quality data pipelines, integrating data from external vendors and internal sources into a central platform.
- Enhance and evolve platform architecture to meet complex and changing analytical requirements.
- Ensure the reliability, quality and availability of data critical to investment processes.
- Monitor, test and troubleshoot platform performance to maintain operational excellence.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to improve data accessibility and usability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, adopting modern tools, technologies and best practices.
About You:
We are looking for a highly capable, intellectually curious Data Engineer who thrives in a high‐performance environment. You will be motivated, detail‐oriented and comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges.
You are likely to bring:
- 3–6 years’ experience in data engineering or a related field.
- A strong academic background, typically a 2:1 or above from a leading university.
- Excellent A‐Level results (or equivalent), demonstrating consistent academic achievement.
- Proven expertise in building and optimising data pipelines.
- Strong technical capability in SQL, Python and cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Experience with tools such as Git and Airflow.
- A track record of improving data quality, reliability and platform performance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
- A proactive mindset, with a genuine passion for learning and solving complex problems.
