Database Administrator (DBA) – Dynamics AX

Location: Onsite, Kingston (London)

Contract: 6 months (likely extension)

Start: ASAP (can wait up to 4 weeks)

Rate: Negotiable (Inside IR35)

Overview

We are working with a leading organisation based in Kingston, London , who are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with strong, hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 . This is an onsite role , requiring presence in their new Kingston office 4–5 days per week . There may be more hybrid flexibility once settled.

The position is focused on Business-as-Usual (BAU) activities in preparation for a significant ERP transformation. The organisation is planning to migrate from Dynamics AX 2012 to a middleware-driven on-premise solution in 2026. As such, the DBA will act as the subject matter expert (SME) for Dynamics AX infrastructure and ensure the system is stable, secure, and well-documented in the lead-up to the migration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure ongoing health and performance of the Dynamics AX 2012 database
  • Monitor performance, risks, and run optimisation queries
  • Manage and execute backup and restore procedures
  • Oversee database security and access control
  • Lead data cleansing and archiving efforts in preparation for migration
  • Support reporting activities using SSRS
  • Maintain and update database schema documentation
  • Prepare and manage test environments as needed
  • Collaborate with the wider technical and business teams, acting as the go-to resource for Dynamics AX database operations

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with Microsoft Dynamics AX , including hands-on experience with AX 2012
  • Strong expertise in SQL and SQL Server
  • Experience with SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services)
  • Comfortable preparing environments for testing and development
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work onsite 4–5 days per week in London and collaborate closely with internal teams and stakeholders

  • This is a key role in maintaining and stabilising the existing ERP infrastructure before a major upgrade project.
  • You'll be working alongside IT leadership, project managers, and application specialists as the DBA SME within the ERP ecosystem.
