Join our dynamic team as a Configuration Lead and play a key role in delivering our new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system. As part of the New EPR Programme, you will help lead a team of Systems Administrators, providing technical and configuration expertise to ensure systems meet clinical and operational needs.
Working closely with the Systems Support Manager, Programme Team, and operational staff, you will ensure systems are correctly configured, fit for purpose, and aligned with the Trust's goals. You will support the implementation of the EPR and related technologies, contributing to improved workflows and working practices.
Your responsibilities will include leading the Configuration and Documentation Team, managing communications from suppliers, developing specialist configuration knowledge, and supporting issue resolution. You will also collaborate with report writers to ensure required reporting is delivered and maintain effective communication with internal teams and suppliers.
We are seeking a candidate with a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in Health Informatics, IT, Computer Science, or a related field. You should bring strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings, resolve issues, and work collaboratively.

Main duties of the job
As a Configuration Lead, you will coordinate and guide a team of Systems Administrators, providing technical and configuration expertise to support the development and deployment of systems. You will lead the configuration of solutions to meet clinical and operational needs, working closely with the Systems Support Manager, Programme Team, and operational staff to ensure systems are correctly and safely configured.
You will support the implementation of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and related technologies, contributing to workflow improvements and ensuring all solutions are fit for purpose. This includes partnering with suppliers, analysing current practices, and helping shape improved processes.
Your role will involve facilitating agreement on changes to working practices, aligning workflows with those built into the supplier's EPR system, and assisting with testing to ensure systems are safe, usable, and robust. You will supervise and develop team members, ensuring deadlines are met in collaboration with Programme and Project Managers.
You will manage supplier communications, develop specialist configuration knowledge, assist with troubleshooting, and respond to end-user queries. You will also collaborate with report writers, ICT Trainers, and other teams to support reporting needs, incorporate training feedback, and maintain strong communication channels.

As a Configuration Lead, you will coordinate and lead a team of Systems Administrators, providing technical and configuration management expertise for the development and deployment of systems. Your role will involve leading the configuration of solutions to meet clinical and operational requirements, working closely with the Systems Support Manager, Programme Team, and operational staff to ensure systems are configured correctly.
You will support the implementation of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and other dependent technologies, ensuring they are clinically and operationally fit for purpose. Your responsibilities will include assisting with the delivery of the Trusts new EPR system, working in partnership with our partners and suppliers, and analysing and suggesting ways to improve current workflows and working practices.
Additionally, you will facilitate agreement for changes in working practices with appropriate stakeholders, match agreed workflows with those built into the suppliers EPR system and assist with testing the systems to ensure they are safe, usable, secure, and robust. You will supervise others and participate in their education and development, ensuring the team meets all set deadlines in collaboration with the Programme Manager and Project Managers.
Your duties will also involve managing and distributing emails from the supplier, developing specialist configuration knowledge, assisting the team with troubleshooting problems, and addressing questions from end users regarding the application. You will work with report writers to ensure the application produces all required reports, maintain regular communication with relevant teams and supplier staff, and work with ICT Trainers to incorporate feedback from training sessions into future developments.
You will be responsible for your own area of work, working autonomously to plan and organize your workload to meet multiple and often conflicting deadlines. You will participate in meetings to discuss workflows and areas of concern, demonstrate build work to staff, and help oversee and enable support to end-users through regular meetings. Ensuring compliance with programme changes and change control mechanisms, and maintaining accurate documentation, will also be key aspects of your role.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge attained through a recognised training in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline and equivalent proven relevant experience.
- Appropriate EPR configuration qualification
Experience
- Very good understanding of the principles of configuration management based on experience of managing EPR configuration
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience of line-managing staff, including performing appraisals.
- Experience of EPR deployment
- Experience of managing clinical documentation within an EPR
- Experience of supporting change management.
Skills
- Very good analytical, organisational and planning skills.
- Very good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with staff at most levels in the organisation, including clinical staff, managerial staff, as well as with external suppliers.
- Meticulous attention to detail.

- Good knowledge of clinical, administrative and/or operational workflows and processes within a health environment.
- Very good operational or clinical knowledge of designing, creating and maintaining electronic clinical documentation including knowledge of relevant operational policies and procedures.
- Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Good understanding of medical terminology and relevant NHS datasets
- Good understanding of SNOMED-CT medical terminology and relevant NHS datasets
