Job summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategically minded SystmOne Product Consultant to join our New EPR Programme within the digital directorate. This pivotal role will act as the Trust's subject matter expert for SystmOne, providing leadership in system design, configuration, and optimisation to ensure alignment with clinical workflows, operational needs, and national digital health strategies. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the Trust's digital future, supporting integration and interoperability, and ensuring the safe and effective use of SystmOne across all service areas. This is an exciting opportunity to influence large-scale digital transformation and deliver meaningful improvements in patient care and operational efficiency.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert consultation on the strategic design, configuration, and optimisation of SystmOne to support clinical and operational priorities.
  • Act as the Trust's expert liaison with the EPR supplier and other third-party vendors, resolving escalated issues and influencing product development.
  • Provide consultancy on system integration and interoperability, ensuring compliance with national standards such as FHIR and HL7.
  • Develop and maintain governance frameworks for configuration, change control, and release management.
  • Support the development and delivery of tailored training strategies and materials in collaboration with the Digital Training Team.
  • Monitor system performance and user adoption, contributing to benefits realisation and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the Trust in regional and national SystmOne forums, sharing learning and influencing best practice.
  • Contribute to business cases, project plans, and risk registers, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of SystmOne-related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with BI teams to ensure data quality and alignment between system configuration and reporting outputs.
  • Promote a culture of digital innovation, mentoring colleagues and supporting the development of digital capability across the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent level of knowledge attained through a recognised training in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline and equivalent proven relevant experience.
Desirable
  • SystmOne configuration or administration certification
  • PRINCE2 or equivalent
  • Relevant certification in adult education

Skills

Essential
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information clearly and persuasively to a wide range of audiences, including large groups
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, particularly in balancing and aligning clinical and digital priorities with non-IM&T stakeholders
  • Ability to present and explain multi-stranded technical and strategic IM&T issues in a way that is accessible and actionable for non-specialist audiences
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret and resolve highly complex, multi-stranded IM&T issues where there may be no precedent or where expert opinions differ
Desirable
  • Skilled in delivering structured training and presentations on complex digital topics to diverse professional groups
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver outcomes aligned to strategic objectives

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience leading SystmOne implementation or optimisation in a healthcare setting
  • Experience influencing system design at strategic level
  • Demonstrated expertise in navigating ambiguity and conflicting priorities to deliver robust, evidence-based decisions in a digital healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated experience in formulating long-term digital strategies under conditions of uncertainty, with the ability to anticipate and manage the impact across multiple departments or the wider organisation
Desirable
  • Experience of EPR deployment
  • Experience of managing projects or areas with complex working practices

Knowledge

Essential
  • Possesses highly developed specialist knowledge of digital health systems, underpinned by both theoretical study and substantial practical experience
  • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of IM&T systems, infrastructure, and governance, typically acquired through postgraduate-level education (e.g. Master's degree or equivalent) and/or extensive professional training
  • Able to apply advanced knowledge to complex system design, integration, and optimisation challenges across clinical and non-clinical environments

Essential
  • Able to attend at County Hall, Norwich on a regular basis
  • Able to travel independently
