This role will be within the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) IT and will report and deliver LIMS and ICE changes, as well as coordinate testing with clinical leads for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn on behalf of the EPR programme - working with colleagues across EPA, the EPR programme, and the Group's pathology network.
Main duties of the job
The MEDITECH Expanse EPR programme depends on pathology ordering and resulting working correctly from day one. This post leads the pathology and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) side of that delivery on behalf of the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA), for the EPR programme's diagnostic integrations at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust.
You will project manage the lab changes implied by the EPR for one of the hospital sites: agreeing the detailed LIMS changes required, liasing with EPA CAB, planning and sequencing your work, changing and tracking LIMS configuration and supplier developments, and managing testing through to go-live and stabilisation. You will work flexibly in a team of three between EPA laboratory services, the EPR programme, Trust digital teams and the LIMS suppliers.
You will lead the alignment of the pathology test catalogue with the EPR build, including test and order set definitions, mapping and code assignment, add-on and reflex rules, specimen and container requirements, and result display expectations - working alongside the Pathology EPR Builder who undertakes the build in MEDITECH Expanse.
You will own the pathology test strategy and plan for orders and results integration, working with the EPR Test Manager, and will manage the pathology defect pipeline through to resolution. Ensureing that changes are made in a way that preserves laboratory quality standards, clinical safety and accreditation compliance.

- Development of new skills that are fully transferrable to new product delivery.
- Experience of LIMS systems and pathology services is a fundamental requirement of this post. You will be the person responsible for planning, checking and making changes to LIMS and ordering systems to ensure high volume or important tests function as they should. Experience of LIMS systems and pathology services is essential. This is not a role we can train someone into. MEDITECH, particularities of our InterSystems, Daedelus and Haemonetics LIMS we will guide you on, and our programme tooling and our governance we can and will teach you.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist, or an equivalent professional laboratory background.
- Project management or testing qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, AgilePM, ISTQB Foundation) or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Substantial experience of a pathology LIMS - configuration, administration, implementation or systems management.
- Working knowledge of pathology services and laboratory workflow across more than one discipline
- Order communications and results reporting, including test catalogue and code maintenance, ask on entry rules.
Skills
- Explains laboratory and technical detail clearly to clinical, operational and executive audiences.
- Can and has managed changes to tests, rules and/or integrations associated with Laboratory Information Management Systems
- Understands how diagnostic ordering and resulting works across systems (HL7 messaging, interfaces, status updates).
- Can work to complete configuration autonomously, accurately, and log their activity and decisions.
- Can build relationships across BMS, clinical leads, digital, EPR and other service staff - and find ways to secure engagement and build trust even when colleagues are busy with business as usual service duties
