Child Health Information Service (CHIS) Specialist
Job summary
The CHIS Specialist post requires inputting data and carrying out crucial data quality checks that support the Child Health service outputs and following systems that promote & support the continued development and improvement of data quality across Child Health services. Whilst also developing expertise in CHIS IT systems (CHISS) and providing support to the preparation and presentation of data and reports.
Our Child Health Information Service deliver an information system and clinical record for individual children on childhood health and screening related activities, on behalf of Public Health England's Healthy Child Programme and children's countywide services, which includes Universal, Specialist Children and Community Paediatrics, screening and immunisation services. Ensuring that key information on a child's health, GPs, Schools and demographic information is up to date and available for health professionals involved in their care and for the use in the safeguarding of children.
The team work collaboratively across care settings, agencies and regions to ensure that children and young people in Cumbria receive all the care and services that they are entitled to, as well as providing a national population health and statutory functions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date Child health data records and office management systems. Ensuring Child Health data is effectively processed and quality assured in accordance with NHS policies and procedures to facilitate timely and accurate reporting of Child Health activity and monitoring performance.
To input and update information accurately via data entry onto RiO Access and word processing relating to children's birth details, vaccination and immunisation data, pre-school data and school health data to ensure effective service delivery.
- To deal competently with queries from users and other agencies relating to key tasks in a professional and efficient manner.
- To prioritise workload on a day to day basis, liaising with other team members to ensure continuity of service at all times.
- To demonstrate flexibility and initiative in response to the needs of the team's directives ensuring that the efficiency of the team is maximised.
- Respond to queries and requests for information as directed by office procedures, guidelines and protocols. Refer complex or unusual requests to the Team Leader or a member of the management team.

Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 Business Administration or equivalent
- Willingness to develop skills and complete further training
Knowledge and Experience
- Higher level Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Microsoft Office systems and the internet
- Higher knowledge of NHS health information systems.
- Good knowledge and understanding of general office management systems and procedures.
- Experience of working with key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Setting up and using IT data collection formats and databases to produce reports for management information
- Proven experience in delivering a range of administration tasks to a high standard in a patient/service focused environment
- Good literacy and numeric skills
- Experience of working in a team
- Experience of the delivery of objectives within a constantly changing environment
