Job summary
Can you help shape how digital technology improves care for 850,000 people? Join our Board as a Non-Executive Director and bring your expertise in digital, data or technology to the decisions that matter for patients and staff.
You will provide independent oversight and constructive challenge on our digital agenda, including electronic patient record readiness, cyber resilience, information governance, data quality and the safe use of automation and artificial intelligence.
This is an opportunity to help ensure that digital investment improves patient safety, care, staff experience and value for money.
Interviews are expected to take place towards the end of November 2026.
Main duties of the job
As a voting member of our unitary Board, you will work with executive and Non-Executive colleagues to set strategic direction, scrutinise performance and risk, and seek assurance on delivery.
You will provide expert support and challenge to ensure that digital programmes are clinically led, user focused, inclusive and aligned with the Trust's strategy. You will help the Board assess electronic patient record plans, cyber and information governance risks, digital investment and the benefits delivered for patients and staff.
You will also contribute to the Board's wider responsibilities for quality, finance, workforce and governance, and work with our Council of Governors and other stakeholders.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will bring senior experience in digital, data, technology, cyber security, information governance, digital transformation or major technology-enabled change in a large, complex organisation.
You will be able to scrutinise major programmes, technology risk, investment decisions and benefits realisation. You will understand how electronic patient records, interoperability, data quality and digital tools affect safety, quality and service delivery. You will be confident interpreting complex assurance reports and translating technical issues into clear, constructive questions at Board level.
You will bring independent judgement, sound ethics and a commitment to digital inclusion, equality and safe, high quality care. Transferable experience from outside the NHS is welcome; previous NHS Board experience is not essential.
The appointment is subject to the Trust being satisfied that the successful candidate meets the fit and proper persons requirements for directors.

Experience
- Senior experience in digital, data, technology, cyber security, information governance or major technology-enabled change in a large, complex organisation.
- Evidence of leading or overseeing a digital strategy, major technology programme or digitally enabled service change.
- Experience of overseeing programme risks, investment decisions, supplier performance or the delivery of measurable benefits.
- Experience of working with cyber security, information governance, data protection or data quality risks at a strategic level.
- Evidence of using data and assurance information to inform strategic decisions or improve services.
- Experience of working with senior leaders and stakeholders across organisational or professional boundaries.
- Experience of electronic patient record programmes, clinical systems, interoperability or managing legacy system risks.
- Experience of digital transformation in healthcare or another safety-critical, regulated setting.
- Experience as a board member or of reporting to, advising or supporting a board or equivalent governance body.
- Experience relating to automation, artificial intelligence or digital inclusion.
