Cardiology Clinical Audit Officer
Job summary
Due to retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen in the Cardiac services department for a Clinical Audit Officer to join our team.
The successful individual will collect patient admission data to support benchmarking with best practice for the National Cardiac Outcome Research Centre UK. Working with the cardiac specialist nurse teams and the NCA audit department to evidence the key performance metrics that report standards of cardiac care delivered. We are looking for a candidate with who has proven experience of clinical audit and exceeds in analytic data collection, excel and pivot tables with high concentration levels and attention to detail, with experience of working to targets. Ideally the candidate will have and demonstrate understanding of National Heart Failure Audit and Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project. Previous experience of working within NCA IT structures is desirable but all training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder is expected to use their own initiative.
- To guide in planning and implementing the delivery of the National, regional and Alliance agenda.
- To undertake governance activity where required, production and dissemination of data in a variety of reporting methods.
- To retrieve raw data from a variety of sources, medical records and hospital information systems to record and analyse data, report and present at national, regional and Alliance level.
- To maintain current data systems to ensure that data collection is accurate, timely and complete and support the development of new systems.
- To provide and maintain established procedures for data validation and statistical analysis.
- To compile reports of relevant analysis/findings through both written reports and oral presentations.
- To represent the Directorate at meetings pertinent to current projects.
- To manage and prioritise work in line with agreed schedules.
- To attend national, regional and local meetings as required and feedback as appropriate.
- To be aware of and maintain the confidentiality of all information..
- To participate in the training of staff throughout the organisation in data collection, data systems, reporting and be part of developing the service further, including basic governance principles.
- To take responsibility for the health and safety of the post holder and others affected by their acts.
- The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required

Person Specification
Skills
- IT skills and Computer Literate
- Good all round numeracy skills, problem solving abilities and logic
- Interpersonal skills in order to liaise with health professionals at all levels across the organisation.
- Ability to work within a team
- Holds a driving licence with cess to a car wiling to use for work purposes
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience with computers and Information Technology, information analysis, clinical coding or statistics.
- Experience in data inputting, validation and interpreting data.
- Experience of office duties, including typing of reports and organizational skills
- An understanding of the concept of clinical governance within the NHS
- Experience of report writing
- Background in any of the following: Clinical Audit Research & Development Information Department
- Recent experience of working within the NHS
Qualifications
- Education to 'A' level standard or equivalent plus additional knowledge, training and experience to diploma level
- OR Considerable clinical audit experience and a minimum of 3 GCSE's or equivalent including English & Mathematics plus additional knowledge, training and experience at diploma level
- Certificate in Clinical Audit
- IT qualification i.e. ECDL
