Technical Support Engineer

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Engineer in the Medical Device Service at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. You will join a team of engineers who specialise in the management of medical devices and equipment at Rochdale Infirmary and in the local communities. This is a Trust wide post which will require the post holder to occasionally work on other sites across the NCA.

You will be working with a multi-professional Medical Devices Team who deliver engineering, governance and training services across a number of Care Organisations and community teams. This Team welcomes innovative approaches and aims to provide clear development pathways andopportunities for staff at every level.

Applicants will be expected to have a minimum qualification of HNC in electronics or a clinical engineering higher diploma with a proven track record of maintaining a range of medical equipment used in hospital, with a willingness to gain new skills in a very diverse range of clinical engineering specialities.

Candidates with a limited skill set may be considered for a lower banded post with a development plan to enable movement to the advertised grade. If appointed to the training post the successful candidate will start at AFC Band 4 and progress to AFC Band 5 upon successful completion of their Training Programme.

Main duties of the job

A brief overview of what your day to day duties will include are listed below:o Carrying out routine maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment.o Investigating and repairing medical equipment reported as faulty.o Updating evidence of work done on an equipment database.o Driving to community sites to collect, deliver, service and repair medical equipment.o Assisting with the commissioning of new medical equipment. This includes testing and configuring of new medical equipment before itis released for clinical use.o Supporting users of medical equipment to make the best use of these assets. This will include providing specialist advice to users intheir clinical use and application.o Assisting in the management of risk associated with medical devices; this will include involvement in training, investigations, testing andrepair of medical equipment and acting as the interface between users and other outside agencies / suppliers.o Working in a team supporting each other in order to achieve the common goal of providing a high-quality service that is agile and flexible and best serves the need of our service users.o Supporting senior engineers to carry out investigations on medical equipment and devices which are reported as being subject to anadverse incident or when supplier recall notifications require action.o Working with external suppliers of medical equipment.o Working within the organisations policies and local procedures.o Regularly updating your Knowledge / Skills.

Qualifications

Essential
  • HNC (Level 4/5 BTEC) qualification in electronic engineering
Desirable
  • Electronic Engineering Degree

Knowledge & Skills

Essential
  • Specialist knowledge in the application and use of a wide range of medical equipment
  • Knowledge and experience of current legislation recommendations for the management of medical equipment
  • Full clean UK driving license
Desirable
  • Wide range of supplier approved training on the servicing and repair of medical equipment.

Registration

Desirable
  • Register for clinical technologists (RCT)

Experience

Essential
  • Experience in a field of electronics maintenance and repair in a workshop environment.
Desirable
  • Experience of working with supplier to resolve and manage clinical risk with the use and application of medical devices
  • Experience of working in a ISO9001 environment.
