Main duties of the job

We have a vacancy for aClinical Coder / Scanning to join our friendly and forward-thinking practice. We would expect applicants to have coding experience within general practice. You will be part of a small team and must have a high attention to detail to deliver timely and accurate coded data to meet the needs of the practice. The role also involves working closely with all members of the Practices Administrative and Clinical teams. This will not be a patient-facing role. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order (as amended) and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Workflow Clinical Coder / Scanning

REPORTS TO: Operations & HR Manager

JOB SUMMARY

To input patient information on to Emis clinical system, oversee the administration of patient records and ensure data quality. To ensure the process is robust and safe as this will enable the practice to increase efficiency and quality of service to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure that the filing and recording of patient information is promptly handled with care and in line with practice policies and procedures

Code all clinical correspondence accurately to appropriate patient records on the EMIS Web clinical system

Workflow to appropriate team/clinician for detailed actions identified on the correspondence.

Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with the practice procedures.

Participate in ongoing formal training in accordance with national standards and Practice requirements to update and maintain skills and knowledge.

Promote and improve awareness of clinical coding, communicating to clinical and management staff the complex rules of coding and its financial effects.

Work alongside the Workflow Clinical Lead to ensure the correct implementation and support decisions are in practice.

Confidently navigate through EMIS clinical system.

During absence of colleagues provide essential cover and carry out any other appropriate duties to ensure continuing provision of the service.

Assist with the implementation of any changes to procedures as required by the GP Lead.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of coding in Primary Care Experience with EMIS Web
  • Understanding of the Clinical Coding process within General Practice

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Desirable
  • Ability to understand a range of medical terminology
  • Experience of IT systems including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
