Our London office is recruiting a Transaction Delivery Lawyer to join our growing matter support capability within the Innovation Design and Technology (IDT) team.

The Role

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-value transactions across our corporate and banking and finance matters, as an extension of our legal and support teams, dealing with activities that are best performed by process-centric specialists utilising legal technology tools, including AI for enhanced matter support and delivery.

You will be both client and business facing and will play a pivotal role in supporting legal transformation across our offices in EMEA. As well as being engaged on specific matters, you will also support the development of the matter support capability.

The role provides a great opportunity to drive change in the delivery of our legal services, working alongside our innovation and technology experts.

The Team

The IDT team is a central part of a wider transformation function with responsibilities for legal teams across EMEA and works in close collaboration with Legal Project Management team (LPM), the Legal Services Team (LST) in Newcastle, the Digital Solutions team (DS), IT and the Knowledge Management team (KM).

The goals of the broader transformation function are to improve: (i) the lawyer experience (LX); (ii) the client experience (CX); and (iii) financial performance of the firm. This is done by identifying opportunities to support, and deliver innovation solutions, using technology, and new ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Supervise a team of legal professionals on a per matter basis with legal tasks that are best performed by process-centric specialists utilising legal technology tools, including AI to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Identifying training needs, creating guidance and providing coaching to ensure matter teams have the requisite knowledge and practice specific skills to deliver high-quality output.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment collaborating with other members of the Legal Transformation Programme (LTP) and relevant legal teams.

Service Delivery

  • Ensure that legal teams are undertaking tasks in accordance with established processes, consistently leveraging appropriate resources and support to achieve optimal outcomes and uphold standards.
  • Oversee best practices and standard operating procedures including in respect of matter lifecycle management. Ensuring these ways of working are adhered to with robust checks and QC in place.
  • Ensure the use of existing technology and tools, and continually evaluate opportunities to introduce innovative solutions—such as generative AI—to enhance operational efficiency and drive ongoing improvement.
  • Monitor and take steps to improve service quality and efficiency in real time.
  • Contribute to and support the implementation of legal project plans, including defining scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, and timing.

Client Interaction

  • Serve as a point of contact for advising on and delivering training, guidance, and ongoing support to internal and external clients on the adoption of new ways of working—including the integration and effective use of technology for new matters.
  • Act as a key partner during the initial scoping and design of matter delivery, ensuring all requirements and risk considerations are addressed before work commences.
  • Where appropriate, support follow-up reviews with clients to identify opportunities for process improvement and enhance future service delivery.
  • Address inquiries and concerns promptly, including triaging issues to ensure critical items are dealt with timely.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transactional legal teams across EMEA.

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas for process optimisation and own changes where necessary, collaborating with others to enhance service delivery.
  • Working closely with transactional legal teams and LTP colleagues to produce playbooks, documenting processes and responsibilities to ensure best practice and standard operating procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of innovative pricing models for legal matters and work to improve data capture and data quality across all matters.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure matter team compliance with any GC & Risk requirements that need to be adhered to when incorporating technology or innovative working practices in legal service delivery.
  • Manage risks associated with legal service delivery and mitigate project issues.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 4 years of experience connected to corporate and/or banking and finance matters working in a global law firm.
  • Working within matrix reporting structures and managing multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing legal technology solutions (using Thomson Reuters, Litera or equivalent tools) within a law firm or legal department, including the deployment of AI tools with a focus on generative AI for matter support and delivery.
  • Proven track record of managing complex matters from inception to completion including experience of managing junior legal professionals
  • Demonstrated client experience, with the ability to understand changing client needs and managing client relationships
  • Qualification in law, either England and Wales or other common law jurisdiction
  • Native or fluent in English, with other languages as relevant for the region a nice to have
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with senior stakeholders
